Vintage Parts Flashback! Wing Mfg's "Posi-Tract's"
I'm currently searching/trying to remember the model magazine that ran a review on these retractable landing gear struts from Wings Mfg. back in the late 1960's.
This set of "Posi-Tracts" showed up on Ebay, but I resisted buying them, choosing instead to just cop the photos, and spend some moments staring at them.
The name "Posi-Tracts" was magic for me as a kid, especially after a review in one of the magazines Uncle Wayne had given me. The article was about a Zero (I think also manufactured by Wings Mfg.) fitted with "Posi-Tracts", and featured a head-on photo of the Japanese fighter, lifting off with the gear on transit. Still on the look-out for that issue, as it really fired my imagination of how cool it'd be for a model to fold up its gear in flight.
The plastic jackscrews and gears look to be fairly fragile, so I'm betting the Spare Parts Dept. at Wings Mfg. got a lot of business!
