Bob, you got us under suspense. Where in your queue are these scheduled?

I haven't even opened that big box yet, it sits right where it's pictured. The Prop Rod just got painted yellow today after a bunch of work. Decided that I would complete the two Prop Rods first before I looked at it. That and I have a lot of outside work to do. Spent most of the last three days burning up that big tree and three others I cut down today.
But I just complicated matters. After putting it off for years and looking and passing on many I won this one a few minutes ago. Just crispy enough for my liking and no wavy plastic wing. I sniped a sniper.

Nice Job! Both the Yellow paint job and the 5 second Snipe!! You were up a against a heavy hitter, and ya got em!! Way-toGo! Can't wait to see you clean and polish up that P-38.

I know the feeling, I have been sniped so many times I feel like a pin-cushion. But, this time time the worm has turned.
From the seller.
"There's this Collector/ Pilot from Canada Crying because he lost the Bid.
Maybe you should contact him so you can show him your collection.
He sent me pictures of his planes and cars and I Was Amazed."
Prop Rods are history. Yellow was a trial.
Body mounting post were a mess. Previous owner had drilled holes down through the body and used screws/nuts to secure. Thankfully Jason made a lot of post replacements, just had to drill them out a bit to accept #4 self tappers.
I wish the yellow photographed better, it's a really nice color. Krylon Sunburst yellow, paint and primer in one. Problem with blue pod. Space Bug Jr.'s Glow plug head hits on the body leaving a 1/6" gap between engine and pod. Either I have to switch it 180 or make an 1/8" spacer.

Looking good. The yellow does actually look very nice. Can I safely assume that the yellow pan had been blasted with some sort of media as the color is different than the others?

Re: Big box arrives and pretty sad Prop Rod
I recall Bob showing details in another thread, media blasted, car needed the most work to restore. Yellow paint job came out immaculate, well done restoration considering what started out with was extremely challenging.
Color not showing up as truer in photo has to do with lighting, camera and/or monitor. Back in the days of manual cameras with good lenses and light, more predictable and impressive photo prints. I find trying to match colors by home computer is almost impossible.
And, that Wen-Mac P-38 is a sight to behold, has such a high ratio wing. They did a really nice job, but bet also it was very pricey, a rich boy's toy (like Richie Rich).

Re: Big box arrives and pretty sad Prop Rod
The Wen Mac P-38 seems to be the Holy Grail of collectable control line plastic airplanes George. They have been going from $700 to near $1000 on ebay and I have been following them for years. Very popular, they usually have around 30 "watchers". IIRC this one had 33.
I won this P-38 for less than average dollars, probably because it's a little crispy, which doesn't bother me. I check the fuel tank nipples, intact which are a weak point for Wen Macs, and the landing gear, present and fairly straight, also the wings. Broken propellor's but I have spare originals.
Checks off a bucket item.

Impressive Bob, and congrats on the win. Yes, you and think alike when it comes to engines and kits. It's more fun to restore a basket case than pay through the nose for a pristine example.
Plus, it is seed for others to see how they can repair theirs as well.

I hate to admit it, but I'm getting a little burned out - bored? with these plastic model rebuilds. That Gilbert is still sitting unboxed. Warm weather is here and I just got in from cutting down another bug eaten pine tree and hauling it off to the burn pile. Bless that tractor. More to go.
My thoughts are turning to something like this:
a $6000.00 no-sale (reserve not met) on Bring-a-trailer.
But, I'm not immune to this:
Absolutely gorgeous, if I needed calm me down pills I would be reaching for them. Bid to $26,500 on BAT with two days to go.
Have I ever mentioned how much I despise these little round bug looking SUV clones running around today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes Bob, nice, but for me, I am a little reluctant on having collector cars, mainly here they are theft / vandalism magnets. Plus, don't have a barn like the neighbor for storing and working on them.
Motorcycles are smaller skirmishes and as such prefer them.

So did you happen to be fortunate enough to win that hot set of wheels?

The Oldsmobile?
No, I'm just a tire kicker over there on Bring-a-Trailer. It sold for $66,000.00 and worth every penny.

Yep, that is the one. I just didn't know what it was exactly, but it does look nice.
