Thinking Tee Dee .05 RC surging during idle any suggestions on how to fix?

Post  cmulder Sat Oct 01, 2022 11:59 am

Found parts to make up the td05 carb and ran the result on a text bench.
The parts missing/ home made was the lever made out of a servo horn and the fibre gasket rings. used a back rubber ring betweed the carb body and lever instead.

Full trottle is normal but when pulled to idle the engine start to surge.
It appears to be some cycle of low rpm for a few sec then suddenly increase (as if you move the trottle).
That last for a sec or so and then falls back to idle and the whole cycle starts again.

Any suggestions? Its the fist time i experience this kind of behavior of a rc carb.

What engine are you running it on?

The regular TD.049 has SPI and it will not be very stable a idle, as it is getting extra air through the SPI.

The TD 05RC was set-up without SPI and it also had a muffler, both these things helps with the throttling and idle performance.

Thinking it is on a standard td piston / liner

And yes it has SPI.

So il swap with a standard (sure start engine) piston liner and test again.

thanks

Thinking succes so far

Ran the new contraption today and the idle is now constant.
Since its a unused piston liner ran 2 tanks verry rich.
Still need glow power for a relative low idle but am confident that will b resolved once break in is further along and the engine will be leaned out more
