Re: It's been a nautical day
I will have to try that on some of my old glow heads.
Infant is resting in Berrymans. Didn't really need it, but it's customary now.
I cleaned up the second SB Jr. box somewhat. Tried Simple Green on a small spot of the greasy finger prints. Didn't work. Went back to Johnson's Pledge, same stains but cleaner. I'm looking for those SB Jr. decals shown on the top of the box. They were selling on ebay but I can't find them now.
Waiting for Matt, or is it Bernie to send the new gaskets before I can put the first one back together.

Re: It's been a nautical day
I did a light dust-up on the Infant. Heat helped to remove the head but the plug would not come off. It reads good on a meter. A little spin removed many of the tool marks but not all, I hesitate to go too far. Backplate is NOT coming off despite hero attempts. No need really, it has great compression.
I should start a new thread but this is probably the last you will hear of the Infant. Not high on my hit-parade of engines, it could be considered to be nautical with the pulley/flywheel thingy.
As bought:
I thought I only had one other, turns out I have four. Junk mostly, probably came with other engines. I'm sure the latest will run. Not sure about the others.

Re: It's been a nautical day
Bob, nice cleanup on the infant. I found it interesting that as manufactured, really doesn't give good allowances for mounting, how I gather that the bottom mount hole tore out. The crankcase outer diameter interferes with the hole as drilled, no clearance for the screw head.
It's a bit of nostalgic history, but gather that it garnered little love in its day, why it passed away into obscurity.
In comparison, the .020 Pee Wee was an instant hit success in its debut. A downsized Black Widow (except patterned after the Babe Bee tank, would have loved if they patterned it after the 8 cc tank), powerful with a third of the cost of a .010 Tee Dee, priced same as the Babe Bee, with its red anodized tank was love at first sight.
Pee Wee's legacy still lives on, 65 years later.

Pee Wee 0.020
I have to agree about love at first sight for the Pee Wee 0.020. I have several of them and cherish them as much as when I saw the first ad for them in MAN probably 1957. It's just amazing that they could be produced with such accuracy for the retail price of $3.95 (or about $5.50 in Canada when I was a kid).
My wife has said several times "Well if they're worth so much why don't you sell them?"
And I tell her that I just like looking at them.

Yes, a poor design but with good intentions. Agreed on the Pee Wee. Were it a Cox I would have removed the cylinder, spun it on the drill press and blackened with gun blue. I did not consider the Infant worth the effort, and I did not want to distort the cylinder knowing that it has great compression as is. That said the Infant is a whole lot rarer than the Pee Wee, but that doesn't translate into value. Pee Wee's go for a whole lot more.
I gave that backplate my best effort and it still defeated me. Major league screwdriver, PB Blaster, heat, ground the forked end of a Cox wrench to fit the slots, tapping hammer and a punch at right angles to the slot, even a good old US Mint quarter twisted with an adjustable wench adjusted to fit.
Still, I have a soft spot for the Infant. Got a little Spitzy in it. Milk can fuel tank. My grandfather owned a small dairy farm and I remember those milk cans. Almost identical in minature.
But, But, But, and but...................These W/M Atwoods are kicking my butt and my ego!!
So much so that I bought another...........and another K&B Allyn as well.
Both ebay BIN with an offer. Checking the sellers, both had hundreds of items for sale. Not collectors who generally know the value of their auctions, but sellers aquiring the stuff for dimes on the dollars. Huge profits and they will deal.
I just pointed out the defects in their offerings and made low ball offers on their already reasonabe asking prices, minus $85 on one $75 on the other. Cheapest examples that I have got yet. The Allyn is a real early example and the W/M Atwood is in nice shape but missing the needle. Thanks to Rod kick starting my memory, MECOA has replacements.
As I have mentioned, I ignored these for years, but I'm finding them an interesting if exasperating little bit of machinery. A third hand would be useful.

Wow, that tuned pipe really screams.
Interesting seeing the 1/2A starter used as a belt drive. Loved the dog, never gave up. Wanted a piece of the boat at the end. Struggled to see the propeller, looks to be about one inch brass........ Amazing video. Thanks

"amazing engine but don't know squat about them"
Same here, but I'm learning......
I managed to get the trouble maker back together but I can't screw the cylinder all the way in. Maybe by the time I get the Atwood parts in from MECOA I will get a handle on the mystery cylinder. It has to come apart again to replace the NVA.

This is getting to be an old story, but the latest Atwood outboards arrived this morning. Best yet, both appear to be unran. Cheapest too. I love that - contact the seller with an offer thing.
Prop on the red one looks Ok Eric. Both turn freely. One more coming - a K&B Allyn then that's it...............he said..........
Like King Artus leaning on his sword.................Nautical theme.

More nautical...
Yesterday, it came to me that I had a model boat fiberglass (MRC) that my son had given me years ago and that I had stored in the cabin. As I recall he found it at a flea market for $35.00. I remember removing and cleaning/lubricating the .35 Enya but that's it. Did nothing more to it. Retrieved it to the garage.
R/C, water jet type propulsion. Suck it in from under the boat, spit it out the back. I have a radio that will fit and now that the community is cleaning up the pond maybe I could disturb some water. Boat's don't make you dizzy.
Reversing door like on jet airliners to slow down after landing. Speed brakes sorta.

Really nice boat Bob, Classy lines…. That Enya ought to purr like a kitten when well broken in….. It’s big enough to have an on board glow lighter operated by the throttle servo….Would help reliable low idle too….Would be cool to put a tap in the muffler and put the spent head cooling water thru the exhaust and cool that as well…. Thinking out loud LOL!!!….The jet drive will be less likely to get snarled on something in the pond …That boat is just asking to be jazzed up with lights and other shiny stuff….

You included lot's of do-dads with your Surf Skimmer Robert, maybe some will find their way on-to it. BTW, did you put a rudder on it? Looks like a rudder may have been attached at one time.
Brought the boat down into the basement 30's in the garage. Got out one of my old radios, probably not legal but I'm going to use it anyway. Enya is in great shape.

Re: It's been a nautical day
BTW, did you put a rudder on it?
It spent most of its life in a round swimming pool and just hugged the edge as it went so I didn’t put the rudder from the kit on it back then…. Later I thought about making it RC, I think that’s why the two “hard points “ are on the back, To mount a steerable rudder, But I never got around to it….Also, That’s why the balsa bulkhead is in it behind the motor, To make a little water tight box for any future RC… Do you think you may RC it?…The Space Bug Jr. will slow down and purr reliably….. Would be just about right for a little single channel boat like that….
