Black Widow backplate question Empty Black Widow backplate question

Post  Ivanhoe Fri May 25, 2012 3:06 pm

OK, all you Black Widow experts out there! other than having no tank vents, what is the difference between a BW backplate and a Babe Bee?

In my quest for a cheap replacement I am contemplating filing off the vents on a BB backplate and filling the holes as a short term fix so I can at least continue to fly the engine, do I need to do anything else?, is the air inlet any larger on a BW, and are there any other differences?

Any advice appreciated

The inlet hole needs to be enlarged and the vents plugged, and that'll do it. Work fine last long time.
The inlet should be the same size as the venturi tube, .082". That's a little bigger than a 5/64" bit (.078), so just finger twist the bit through and ream it slightly so it is a loose fit. A bit crude, but it works for me anyway.

Thanks, Rusty, that's what I needed to know
