Shoot! More examples of what some of these engines have been through. Do the tanks still seal with their original backplates?

Not sure of the tanks still seal to the backplates. The backplate on one is no longer flat and rocks when on a flat surface. These will go in the "take a better look of the lot before bidding bin" so I remember to look at lots better.

???
I always had a junk piece of wood and 2 or more screws laying around the vice is for holding the piece of wood the engine is screwed to if your fingers/hands are too precious to do it

I am ashamed to admit that I did it once when I was about 13. I was smart enough to realize that it would do damage so I backed off. I still have the widow, the tank and back are perfectly round, but I have a little crosshatch pattern on the tank still as a reminder of my impatience.

There was this once that the old wenmac of my dads did vibrate loose from the not tightened enough vice and chase me across my parents cellar before it hit the deck and wiped out that nice 3 blade prop it came with
