I have always wondered how a flapped slab wing would fare. I have plans for a couple different ones. Definitely will be watching.

Over at Stunthanger.com, there is a thread with some amazingly nice elaborate flapped slat wing stunters.
And no, I didn't misspell Stunthanger, they did.

I must be a doofus as well. I don't get it. If you go to the home page they spell it "Stunthangar" on the banner.
The web address is "Stunthanger"

Ron- I thought it was cool also. A friend gave me tha drawings, he was going to throw them away. He hates 1/2A's, I always hear him saying 'Darn 1/2A's".
Godsey- I wanted to see how it flew. It has a sheetmetal cowl on the front that I most likely won't put on, just leave the .049 out the front. It look good on the drawing, but I think it will look funny in real life.
Rusty- I have seen the thread on SH, but have not read it. I should, I might see something important.

Re: New Castor Oil Odyssey plane
In my limited experience the large planes are more forgiving on engine runs and trim issues.
1/2A's don't tolerate much. Something like a slight wing warp or tiny air leak can ruin your day. I can see why some folks don't like em. It took me almost a year to trim the Bean, but it flies almost as good as my Baby Clown now.

Re: New Castor Oil Odyssey plane
No progress on the plane tonight, had work, Physical Therapy post surgery, then home to find the youngest son with his head bleeding. I did find the time to take the tank off the contest engine and put a backplate on it. And built a mouse racing engine. Maybe this weekend thing will settle down.

Re: New Castor Oil Odyssey plane
However you spell it, there is lots of good information there. I frequent several boards and that is one. You will see many of the guys from here.
As for the plane...make sure you hook up the control lines correctly. Rear line is up for flap, down for elevator. Not a problem, many flyers of full-blown stunt ships prefer front line for up...just be aware.
Nothing like starting a loop and finding the controls backwards. Of course none of us have done that!

Yeah. The boy did something really stupid yesterday and smacked his head, after we got all the blood out of his hair it was a small cut. You know how heads like to bleed. It's amazing how we survive the teen age boy period of our lives.cribbs74 wrote:Goodness Duke!

Re: New Castor Oil Odyssey plane
That IS looking cool! How well do the flaps increase performance, on a flat-wing plane? I might have to whip one up, if my other stuff doesn't work like I want it to. The guys say I'm stalling it, before it even gets to the top of a loop.

Re: New Castor Oil Odyssey plane
I don't know how it flies yet, I haven't hooked lines to it.
I think the elevator is going to be to big, the flaps are small and it might work. A friend was going to throw out the plans and I loved the look of it. I just knew I would have to build it. I'm really just building it for the fun of it.

I'll try to post the new photo tonight. I changed the motor mount (my first wood motor mount) and I won't use the metal cowl from the drawings.

Me too. I love orange on white. I have the orange plane factory, not the purple one.
I tried my first built up nose on tis one, I usually put a Brodak or Cox plastic mount on them. It should stay on there for a while.
