Re: What is it???
Coolest thing I've seen iin a while.
Was there any steam involved in the forming.
Don't know what it is, but I like it.
Reminds me of some of the bent balsa stringer
lay-ups I used to do with peanut rubber flyers
many years ago(35-40 eek).

What is it?
Sorry Dave & Crankbndr you guys arent even close so no prize!
dckrsn-- No steam involved all you need is a form , Ace bandage and a super secret ingredient that every household has!
And since it was a person from this forum that gave me the info.....
I used a an 11/2" wooden dowl 1/8" balsa sheet and .....Windex glass cleaner.
The 1st. step was spraying the balsa sheet with the windex on both sides, let in soak in a few minutes & spray some more. It will start to get real easy to roll & then just wrap it around the dowl or form, then wrap it tight with the ace bandage. Let it set overnight. Step 2, I used smaller dowls to get the taper I wanted, sprayed with more windex and used painters tape to hold it over night.
I'll post more picts as I continue ......RK Flyer

Re: What is it???
The process reminds me of the rubber powered model build in MA this month.

Re: What is it???
Obviously not your speed entry as it has to be something full body fuselage. Or I am assuming too much thinking it is an airplane.

Ian....Good guess but not it! The Airacobra is the Military Version, BUT think PROTYPE, a racing plane, only 2 models were made & flown!
I will try to post the ans. today!

Re: What is it???

I found this plan on line a couple of months ago & I just have to build it!
I wanted to wait until I had it complete but with the new intrest in Speed Planes I can't resist showing to everyone!
Its called the "Stiletto" by Richard LaConte, It was first a prototype for the 1969 National Speed contest. The prototype was tested for about20 flights before it crashed in high winds. The unoffical speed was 71-78mph according to Richard. The Stiletto was built after that but never flown for a speed test.

Re: What is it???
I'm having a little difficulty accepting that as a profile fuselage. AMA describes a profile fuselage as looking flat and plate like from the top. To me that looks like a built up cylinder with a constant taper from the midpoint to both ends, not "flat and plate like". I'm inclined to not allow it. Would any other competitors care to weigh in?

Re: What is it???
Exhibition is more than welcome. It's not a profile.
I'm not going to argue with someone building a model for the pleasure of building the model.

Speed Contest
It looks like the P39 Airacobra with the mid engine won't work in the profile fuse so its back to the drawing board!
I will continue with the Stiletto & post more pictures as it moves along!
