I came across this and it seems a little odd, as well as very cheap.

Clearly a car engine with a shaft extension, but the cost, including prop & muffler, is unbelievable for any current .15 engine.
I would imaging it would be very heavy for a plane and could probably lose a lot of weight off the cooling fins.
It would nearly be worth grabbing one at that price for a sacrificial experiment engine.  You could cut & chop and madify all you liked without risking much $$.

Maybe for a "pusher".. One ground-strike mounted conventionally without supporting the shaft with a second "front" shaft-bearing incorporated into the mount.. and you can kiss that engine goodbye. Two Cents

The above mentioned site (DHGate.com) has these engines listed for $19.21 USD with free shipping.. but does not include the muffler or extension-shaft. I think it may have been designed for heli's primarily. Here's some more photos. Very interesting.

There is a Toki .05 engine that has been converted to airplane use too; Toki at Mecoa

It looks much prettier but it is the performance and weight that really matters, and there they are not very competitive...

I took a look at that Mecoa link.. but there isn't much info on specs. I see two .05 engine choices; both have ABC construction, dual ball-bearings and RC Carbs. They look identical.. other than the black/red anodizing on the Toki vs. the Fuji; which is plain casting throughout. The Fuji is $60.00 cheaper than the Toki. $89.00 vs. $150.00 respectively. Full parts support is available.. because Mecoa acquired "Shuwa" of Japan, who makes the engines. It states that Shuwa had been building and badging these engines for many model companies including HPI, Kyosho and Tamiya.. and also states that; "If you own a made in Japan engine that was not made by OS, Enya, Saito or YS it was probably made by Shuwa Industry."

It has been my understanding that Japanese engines are of fairly high quality. That Toki .15 buggy-engine on DHGate.com has free shipping to the US.. and the price comes down to $18.64 if you buy two or more. The muffler is not included though.. and is an additional $14.03. Still.. for less than $35.00 you can have a new RC engine to play around with.. maybe not for an airplane.. but a nice little 24" speedboat would be nice! Total weight of the engine and muffler is stated to be 0.7kg.

Here's a pic of the muffler for the .15

While on the subject of rc car engine conversions, OS made a nifty .15 combat engine based off their side exhaust CV series car engines called the CV-A. I don't know if you guys have heard of it before but its a nice little engine and would make a great C/L engine I used to have one on a sig wonder and it would scoot!

They don't make the CV-A anymore I think...

Enya still makes their .11CX though, a true ABC engine. Smile

For something cheap from China, that still is useful, there is the SC/ASP/Magnum .15XLS. It does around 18000rpm on a 7x5prop. Smile
