My first swap meet

Well, after hearing about the McMinneville R/C swap meet for a few years, I decided to check it out.  Not sure what I was expecting, but it was a nice little show.  My son and I got there about an hour after opening, and already a good amount of stuff had sold.  After wandering around for a couple of hours, I had some nice little early birthday presents to myself.



I got this Spectra electric sailplane for $10.



And this Magician C/L for $10 also.  It’s a little rough, but a little work will set it right.  And it’ll be perfect for one of the McCoy 19’s that I got from Ron.



This little single channel plane was $5.  It has a nice Golden Bee on it.  It also still has the single channel escapement inside.  I’ll probably pull the escapement out and sell it, then put in a modern micro system after a recover.


My $1.00 and under control line handles.  The Goldberg handle was 50 cents.  I doubt I’d ever use the aluminum reel handle.  I just got it as a curiosity as it is both the line reel and the flying handle.  I know a lot of people don’t like Sullivan Insta-Just handles, but the two I’ve had have never given me any problems.  The little purple one is an interesting little 1/2A handle.  I’ll have to figure out what to use it on.



And my $5.00 handles.



This is the contents of a Tub-O-Cox that I picked up at a table from a Heretic who said he’s giving up both control line AND 1/2A.  There wasn’t anything in the tub that I really needed, but SOMEone had to rescue these things, so I gave the Benedict Arnold $50.00 to set them free.  It had nine complete engines and assorted parts and pieces.  Amazingly enough, five of the six loose glow heads are still good.

A couple of parts I don’t rightly recognize.  The first is what I assume to be an insert to use an aftermarket glow plug.    The second is a needle valve and reed assembly.  The needle valve is fine thread, and the reed body is what I assume to be some version of Bug assembly, maybe?





It even had the super rare 2 of 3 piece piston.



The best bargains would probably be the new $12 Blade MCX, the $1.00 Kavan tank extender,  the two free .049’s, and the brand new OS LA .46 S for $35.00.




So, it was a good day all around.  My son asked me if I was going back next year.  I’ll give it a maybe. And get there early if I do.
