Re: Lunch Time Laser'in
thanks guys!
i am hopeful we can finally get out and do some flying this weekend. the weather has not cooperated much lately.
after doing i bit of browsing and re-reading the comments of what to use for lines and handles and not using old brittle handles... i put the laser back to work. i made a copy of one of my old orange cox handles. 1/4" delrin and added a hole for a wrist tether. i think they will do the job.

Holy-cow! Those are really super cool. So much better than my stick with a screw at each end! Very nice work Roger.

thanks roddie! i really like those handles for 1/2A. especially thumb grip area at the top of the handle so you know for sure what way is up when you pick up and handle. i cut these on the laser but they could be done on the cnc. laser was faster and less material loss. i think it was about 3 minutes of engraving and cutting per handle.
i'll see if i can come up with a cost if anyone is interested.

I will tweak the wheels a bit before I make any more. I don't think they would be much at all Eric. I can make them pretty much any size. These were 1.25" I think. Don't recall right now

I'm in for 2 handles also. No wheels for me, but just wondering, with the widening of the middle of the handle on each end of the cutout, can you get two wheels out of the center cut out of one handle?

i do a lot of that sort of thing and it's a good idea but, the handles are 1/4- thick and the wheels 1/8" i will save the scrap though!

Re: Lunch Time Laser'in
Hi Roger! Those wheels look pretty spiffy! Tell me, do you think you could make some like the speed wheels on Jim Pvelo's Racer pictured here: https://www.coxengineforum.com/t7115p340-cef-speed-contest-design-discussions. Apparently they were a Jim Lee Design but I've not had any luck finding a couple of sets in the 1", 1-1/4" and 1-1/2" diameter. If you can do this, would you please let me know so we can discuss an order. Thanks in advance.

hi jim,
i would need to think it out. these are 1/8" think. i would think i would have to start with something thicker to taper them down. i will do some playing when i have some time and see what sort of result i can obtain.

That would be great! I bet there would be a number of others who might have need of some too! I s'pose 1/8" thick, tapered down should be sufficient. Wish I knew how to do what you do!! Maybe I'll live long enough ....maybe!
