Drive plate Stuck

Motor looks used and all parts worn in. Polishing is wate of time. Good cleaning/ lube it up should be good to go. Cox wrenck has fitting for lock collar behind thrust washer. Maybe heat will loosen castor and make removal easier.

I've never been a big suppporter of using the lock nut to press off the driveplate. Mostly because it grinds away material as you work the driveplate off.

Not knocking anyones methods or anything. Just there is another way that is less invasive.

Well, two other ways, but one requires a press which not everyone has. So what I do is unscrew the backplate, piston and cylinder lay the back of the crankcase on a hard flat surface, preferably steel. Screw the prop screw back into the crankshaft and carefully tap the head of the screw until the driveplate pops off. It shoudn't require much force to remove it.

I would also dedicate a prop screw to this method of removal as you may marr the head with the hammer. Or you may not, I never do, but it could happen.

The above link is what I use. Use hardened cap screws and thread in at least 4 or more turns into the crank then press the crank off of the drive plate. Works best if the arbor press is bolted down to a heavy workbench.

that's cool , I just was thinking bet that thing would crack some black walnuts ,I have quite a few trees , they sprout easily from the nuts . I am glad this came up I had used the spanner part of the wrench but ....no more , thanks

Wow.. that's gone up in $$.. It was $28.00 USD less than 6 months ago!
