Has anyone seen a Cox crankshaft like this
I recently purchased a Cox "Killer Bee" off ebay and received it, cleaned and began checking out what was really inside. The red backplate had a 72tpi needle instead of the 128tpi in a real Killer Bee. This is similar ro the current Killer Bee red backplate and needle assemblies sold. The cylinder has no markings, but has the porting of a current #1 cylinder with dual slots of equal size, not with the lower slot slightly larger for a small amount of SPI. The crankcase was anodized gold and the drive plate, or washer, was silver no drag. Correct on that count. The crankshaft should be a Killer Bee or Venom crankshaft with a triangular shaped wedge instead of a half-moon like most babe bee, golden bee, etc. crankshafts. see what this crankshaft looks like:
ebay purchased Killer Bee Crankshaft looking from back plate side.
The crankshaft pin is polished and shiny like the real Cox Venom-Killer Bee crankshaft were.
I haven't seen a crankshaft like this with a hole in the center, have you?
Any comments appreciated.

The first batch of Cox International HD crankshafts were made this way. The KB you got on ebay was built from parts

Yeah, that looks like a 1st gen Cox International crank. Did you pay the price of a real KB? if so, I'd go get your money back. Have anymore pictures of the rest of the engine? The cylinder you describe doesn't sound right either.
Only the .051 came with a red backplate. If it's a KB .049 with a red backplate, that would be the first sign that someone has modified it. Otherwise, the gold anodizing on the case looks like they used a real KB case.

I'll take a picture and post tomorrow

No, I did not pay that much. I'll take a picture of the entire engine and post tomorrow. Red backplate for .049, yes. No markings, but looks like a #1, or #7, inside.
Why doesn't the cylinder sound right for a .049, especially if it was a Leisure-Estes engine made from pieces and parts. At least the crankshaft is close, unless the crankshaft prop hole is off by 3 degrees?
The engine looks like it had been run only 1 or 2 times. Very little gunk.

Re: Has anyone seen a Cox crankshaft like this
I'm saying the cylinder doesn't sound right for a Killer Bee. It should be a 2 bypass, 1 boost port on each bypass, slit cylinder with the lower slit wider to allow SPI.
Re: Has anyone seen a Cox crankshaft like this
Did any Killer Bees have fine thread NVs. I didn't think they ever did.

If they did, the examples that I owned didn't have a fine thread. They looked similar aside from the yellow extension, but they were not the fine versions.

Well here are all the pictures
Here are all the pictures of my ebay "Killer Bee"
My ebay Cox "Killer Bee" engine overall showing equal slit cylinder, unmarked
My ebay Cox "Killer Bee" showing cylinder inside, but undefined cuts. Looks like a #1 cylinder only 1 boost port.
My ebay Cox "Killer Bee" showing standard glow head and equal dual slit cylinder unmarked
My ebay Cox "Killer Bee" showing red KB backplate with floating reed.
My ebay Cox "Killer Bee" showing red back plate and larger intake hole, approx. .080 inch.
My ebay Cox "Killer Bee" showing inside of piston, no thinned walls. sorry for lack of light.
that's it. If any one wants to see more pictures I will post additional on request.
p.s. I will replace the "Killer Bee" crankshaft, wherever it was made with a new Venom crankshaft. see additional pictures.
Chinese Killer Bee crankshaft and Cox Venom crankshaft, Front View, Chinese Crankshaft on Right
Chinese Killer Bee crankshaft and Cox Venom crankshaft, Top View, Chinese Crankshaft on Top
Chinese Killer Bee crankshaft and Cox Venom crankshaft, Prop end View, Chinese Crankshaft on Left
enjoy and please comment so I don't do this again.

Yes, but they don't exist any longer

Admin: Oh, I see what you mean, but I knew that anyway and Yes, but those cylinders don't exist any longer anyway. What number were they, #7? Bernie sells a #7 currently. Do you mean it is not the true Killer Bee #7 cylinder with the bottom slit slightly larger??? Wow.
Nothing is real anymore.

Re: Has anyone seen a Cox crankshaft like this
Completely parts built. I would say your case is likely a real Killer Bee case, it is the right shade of gold and looks to have an original finish. I would almost leave the 1st gen Cox International KB crank in the engine and see how it runs the way it is. You could use your real KB/Venom crank to upgrade an Estes KB .049 or build a Venom clone. The cylinder looks like a late 70s Babe Bee cylinder with the top fin not milled. Maybe it's just the light but the glow head almost looks like a high compression head, could be an old 3 fin one. Is the top of the head knurled?
Here's a picture I took long ago of my Venom clone. The Killer Bee cylinder has a wider lower slit.

GA long time ago in a far distant Galaxy...

It must have been a really long time ago, as in the KB era, what 1996?
Those cylinders are few and far between. Want to trade?
Just keeding. I am sooo envious of the cylinder.
Thanks for the + feedback and comments. You didn't mention what type needle assembly your KB engine has?
Edited 11-23-15 to add glow head info:
The glow head was a standard glow head. Not knurled. I will replace it with a TD glow head when I change the crankshaft. I may run the Chinese crankshaft in an old crankcase just in case something happens...
