How's the weather?

Re: How's the weather?
I love this global warming. February and it's 51 degrees. With heating oil in this area at $4.31, some of the places are $5.11. My co worker has twin 275 gallon tanks, that fill up should come with complimentary Vaseline. I'm hoping we don't see the frigid temps we normally receive. We had 7" of snow a few weeks ago and all of it is gone due to rain. The ice though was really touch and go for a bit. Might even get to do some flying this weekend. Dust off some of this cabin fever.

Re: How's the weather?
Today they call it global warming or cooling. Back in the old days they called it weather. Read that the north pole ice is at its thickest in a while. I ignore the boob tube and boob news, get weather from apps. Hardly watch TV, waste of time these days.

Re: How's the weather?
We received 4" yesterday morning. It stopped about 10:30 am. The wet stuff and it's practically gone today. Weird, the temps really dropped, winds picked up. I got some building in however, the Combat Streak is almost framed up.

Re: How's the weather?
We're supposed to get 8-10" of snow between today and tomorrow. Windy too. We're paying for the nice weather we had a few weeks ago.
Re: How's the weather?
Hi rsv1cox,
I bet there are glowing coals still left in that fire !
I'm collecting twigs etc to do a 'Spring BBQ'.
All the ash dust gets turned into the tomato patches.
Very weird Winter, just west of Toronto, Canada.
Zero out door skating rinks, and no chance of making a snowman.
First time in 20 yrs, the trusty 5hp Honda Snowblower has not been needed.
Neighbour with the 10hp blower has not started it for 10 yrs,
And the neighbour with an awesome Craftsman 25hp one has not started his for 20yrs.
We are not complaining,
Just observing.
A very cloudy Winter since last November.
Somehow a few days after the Groundhogs made their predictions,
Blue Skies and Calm winds !
I flew the 24in elec Buzzard Bombshell for three days !
Frost each night, calm 4C mid afternoons.
Sunlight through transparent yellow is awesome.
We are back to the usual 'regular' windy Spring here...
Hope the weather is Good where you are...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave
P.S. +90 yr old Mum and Dad are OK, thanks for not asking for details !

Re: How's the weather?
I'm looking forward to being able to light our burn-pile. It's getting pretty big but it's still the fire danger period here. We're now into Autumn but are yet to get much in the way of Autumn rain. Summer was very late and not all that hot. The "experts" say that it's been our hottest summer on record which is just garbage. I reckon we've only had about three uncomfortably warm nights. Longest stretch of 35ºC plus has been about 3 days rather than the usual 6-7 days, repeated 2-3 times over the season. No idea where they're getting their figures from but they're certainly not true if my memory serves.
Just had a light shower, first for a couple of weeks. They predict some heavy rain over the next few days which should settle the dust a little.

Re: How's the weather?
Hi Oldenginerod,
I am glad things are getting more temperate again for you.
I could not stand the 45C and 30C nights you had 3 months ago.
Us snowblowers here are upgrading our air-conditioners.
Good luck with the rain.
Farmers here are used to 2-3ft of snow to evenly melt each year.
Gentle rains all April might even thing out here.
Had a beer with my snow blowing neighbours and had fun with some math,
According to the law of averages,
We have to move 25ft of snow next year...
And we can turbo charge the awesome 25hp vintage Sears/Craftsman snowblower.
We missed snow blowing this year !
Can you tell?
Spring here,
Is when you park snow blowers...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: How's the weather?
Hi All,
Spring is Sprung here just west of Toronto,CAN.
Elders say, 2 to 3 weeks earlier than yester years. What do they know?
Just ask scrambling home garden store employees.
I am cutting back to 10 Tomato plants this year.
I want to grow them taller, so I don't have to bend over !
Made a path for 91yr old Mum's new walker. Both sunny/shady spots.
For over 60yrs, she has been part of a Garden Club.
Our goal this year, is to make a list of all the plants, as they bloom.
(the Swiss Alpine Butter Cups bloomed in February ! )
This Summer will be Fun.
PLUS !
Dad has a 44in span Fiesler Stork. Scratch built from plans he drew. Flies good, but a bit too heavy.
We are going to stress test/smash/recycle it and put the guts in this:
https://www.dumasproducts.com/?product=l-19-bird-dog-kit-1804
It is his first lazer cut/CA glue plane he has built. And it is a Beauty.
We will modify the scales we use, to make sure it is 250 grams...
This Summer will be Fun.
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: How's the weather?
Good for your Mum Dave. Gardening helps keep you young, get's you out there with nature. My Mom always had a garden, finally gave it up at 100 when we moved her into an assisted care facility. Your Dad too, I like that Dumas Bird dog. 40" span is no little bird.
Spring breaking out here too. I took this picture this morning and caught a Red bud in Bloom. They are sprinkled all over West Virginia.

Hi Bob,
I am somehow relishing being in the right place, at the right time...
When I find where Mum put the camera,
I will learn how to post pictures here.
It has a video function. I have the tripod.
I am currently training three clans of Chipmunks...
For 'Chipmunk Wars !'

Re: How's the weather?
Hi All,
Beautiful Spring here, just west of Toronto, Canada.
Tomatoes are 'hip high' , and the chainsaw has negated the need for a ladder to do any more pruning....
The experiment of letting the backyard grass, 'just grow' is going great... (I call it, making hay!)
It is great to get Mum outdoors to see all her flowers...
I have been flying almost every nice morning. It adds up !
Highlight yet, has been flying 6min through a total eclipse.
(technically, low light, but I like puns... )
Longest day here is June 21st.
I have a 5:25AM early flight record.
Also, a 9:45PM latest flight, both done on decades apart on June 21st's.
I am planning to break both records this year.
On this June 21st.
(I have contacted FAI and the Guinness World Record people, again. )
Fortunately, they can take a joke. Again !
I hope you are having fun flying model airplanes too...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Re: How's the weather?
Lots of rain the past couple of months. Yesterday was nice. Raining again today. We're officially out of the drought status we've had for about 2 years now. Supposed to be over 90°F (32°C) tomorrow.
Re: How's the weather?
Things are really starting to cool down here now. Coldest morning of the year this morning, but turned out to be a beautiful calm sunny winter's day, still with a chill in the air. My access to free firewood has pretty much gone due to the need for a new chainsaw, although I'm now incapable of using one due to my severe lower back and left elbow deterioration. Bit the bullet last week and had a tip truck load delivered. Cost about the same as a decent Stihl chainsaw. Fortunately I have a very fit and determined wife who wheel-barrowed and stacked the whole load in the shed in one day.
Hopefully it sees us through until next year.

Re: How's the weather?
Well the first day of Spring here last Sunday really hammered us. No huge damage but a real mess in the yard to clean up and no power for two days. Fortunately we have a large electric storage water heater and gas cook-top so we could still shower and eat. We rely on electricity so much. Phones were down because the modem is powered. Mobile phone went flat, so I had to drive around for an hour to charge it in my van.
Government keeps closing down coal power stations and the green movement won't allow any Nuclear or hydro plants to be built. Wind and solar don't cut it, but they keep telling us to go electric with everything and are now moving to ban the installation of gas appliances in all new homes. Madness! We have so much natural gas that we're selling most of it to Japan and India, but we can't use it ourselves.

Re: How's the weather?
Rod, I've reworded what I said that was a gut wrenching feeling, a necesity being this is a family forum in spite of a few dysfunctional moments we have had, once in a while. I am rewording in a kinder gentler disposition.
What you state is true and just logical plain reasoning. Recently I discovered the lie propagated by a US oil mogul a century ago (the lie in our current textbooks), that "dino oil" was in limited supply, to keep prices elevated for extreme profitability. It is in greater abundance than ever, in spite of the spewed nonsense.
Organic chemistry is not due to millions of years of fossilized dying dinosaurs and plant life. Else, how do you explain our cold planets (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune) have methane seas?
Traditional coal, natural gas fired, nuclear and hydro-electric plants need to be idle to immediately fill gaps in wind production. Winds below 15 mph is insufficient for utility grade power. Calm and low wind conditions produce no power.
But as now we are deviating from topic thread would be best in a separate thread in say, the Redneck Zone.
But, what you state is truth revealing what is being pushed by those who care not about our livelihood nor our sustainability, but about their extreme profitability even at others (our) expense. And this is why they are silencing dissidents.
Selling your gas to other nations and building wind power is more profitable to them, not you (nor us). So I know what you are saying, couldn't agree more.
