Is this a better way to go with glow plugs for the .09 medallion? Or just use the standard cox plug?I need a plug for my .09 medallion.

Jim,

If you plan on doing a lot of flying it's not a bad idea. .09 heads are a little harder to find than .049's so it would pay off in the long run. It also allows you to use a standard ignitor.

You will loose a bit of compression over the standard head, but you could always sand down the head a little to build it back up of needed.

I like this option, the Nelson plugs last forever and there is no loss of compression.

So basicly drill and tap and original bad plug.What thread is used on the small standard plug?

Need a good way to hold the glow head

A Used cylinder works in a v grove section of a vise

First punch out he glow filament and center post from the inside out the top of the glow head

Next from the outside top you use a 7/32 drill and there are arguments about all the way through or just enough deep for the standard glow plug with one or more copper gaskets to fit...this method requires a BOTTOMING 1/4-32 tap

Drilling all the way through with the 7/32 lets you use any 1/4-32 tap

even though this is soft aluminum you need to go slow taping with light oil and frequent cleaning of the flutes by backing out 1/4 turn before then next turn in cutting

If the is just a sport .09 this is a cheap method but like others have said...the adapters that are out there are set for TURBO plugs or Nelson plugs and either is a good investment as they add RPM and in the case of the Nelson plugs the plug is relatively cheap at $5 most sources

Look up Nelson plugs and you should see why they seal the chamber better

Car guys use TURBO plugs...same idea but different method and shapes and the plugs are outrageously priced...IMO
