Enya .09 with an Aussie connection
I thought this interesting. Included with the early carburetor Enya .09
Discussed a while back. It found it’s way to my door for $36.00

Hi Bob, Have you had a look at the piston? Sorry if I missed a previous discussion.

Hi roddie, What made this one unique was the early Enya carb with no air bleed or stop. It rotates through a full 360 degrees. When I received it the seller included the paper pictured above that warned of piston damage, I have not as yet removed the head but I could see no damage to the piston while looking through the opening for the glow plug. I do have a spare piston if it's necessary, I haven't even cleaned it yet. The pistons in all Enya .09's are the same except for the first 3001 version (on the right) and they don't interchange which has caused me some misery.
Seems in it's past life it was shipped from Washington state to Queensland Australia then somehow it made it back to a vendor in the US who listed it on ebay. Shipping wasn't cheap.

Just change the glow plug to an Enya 3 (or 4) plug and you should be fine. The Enya plugs are somewhere in between a short- and a long-reach plug. A true long-reach plug with idle bar on it may well hit the piston...

Well.. you've got another "Enya".. well-travelled... and I know how much you love em"!!!!!!!!
Re: Enya .09 with an Aussie connection
So the buyer in Queensland paid $73.63 for it, then it was sold back to someone in the U.S. then Bob got it for $36?? Makes no sense. Someone's obviously taken a big hit somewhere along the line. The packing slip to Australia is only dated seven weeks ago. Maybe it was returned and refunded.
"Shipping wasn't cheap." Shipping's never cheap. Combine that with a lower dollar value out here and you guys have it made by comparison.

By the way Bob, nice pick-up. You can never have too many Enya .09s. My first ever ebay purchase was an .09-IV TV. Got it for $10 plus $30 shipping.
In the picture it looked absolutely trashed at first glance, but I could see the underlying beauty. It was absolutely varnished up with castor inside and out. Really filthy. The crankshaft was tight and took quite a bit of rich running to clean off the varnish & get it runing freely. Converted it back to C/L & it runs as good as any of my 5 or 6 -IIIs & -IVs

Agreed Rod, It's amazing how nicely these little engines clean up, even the worst examples can be made to look like new. Pop them in the pot, give a good scrubbing, protect the polished areas and media blast them, then even everything out with fine steel wool and a cutting oil. Or just run them as received either way they do fine. But, I never blast the II's as the cases were finished differently. Later .09's have matte finishes.
As you know the .09II replaced the first .09 3001 and was a completely new engine. The one pictured is stamped IMI (International Model INC) visible in the picture on the bearer indicating it was an early 1960's import. Later, MRC (Model Rectifier Corp.) took over.

Given the short time frame of 7 weeks ago, makes me wonder if it may have been the victim of the "global shipping" problem, and was re sold on the e bay by someone who has access to the "unshippable" items confiscated by that company.

That crossed my mind too. Perhaps it was never shipped, but the first seller was located in Washington state, the people that sold it to me "store house auctions" are located in Tennessee.
Maybe it was refused in Australia and returned, or the receiver just didn't want it and sent it back. Both make so sense considering the shipping costs. How it got from Washington state to Tennessee is a mystery all in that short period of time.

Just speculation but the seller has 1,776 things listed, everything from NOS Husqvarna motorcycle tanks to dolls to furniture... Probably a company that buys stuff in bulk. Probably the stuff that becomes "undeliverable" ends up in outfits like this one.
Bee as it may, that's a nice Enya
