Samuel and I will be there along with my wife and daughter. We'll both fly Stunt and this year Samuel will join me in Speed Limit Combat for the first time. I've been waiting for that since I started teaching him to fly. Its going to be a great way to end the season. I may have to duck out early on the poolside party since mama will be watching

Re: The 2017 Carolina Criterium - Locked and Loaded!
It's officially here for me now!
And I am ready!
I have a remarkably capable flagship, and a trimmed and easy to fly backup ship. All last minute A&P worries are completely resolved.
And I can and did fly a full pattern with reasonably manageable instability... Hey, I'll take it however it comes, but I flew well enough today, albeit hyper-cautious. I only decided to abort the 2nd set of the OH8, and I could have and would have completed it successfully if I'd been flying in a contest. The first set was acceptable, but I pretty far off balance and I played safe.
And other than very painful hobbling, I felt great today. Like the old saying, I feel like a hundred dollars!... a thousand even... well, y'all know the old saying. Anyway, that's a good thing, Lol
And serendipity, how about this:!:

You folks, Please come. Watch and experience it.
Bring a b.eater and fly profile on Saturday morning, open field with no skill classes. Even if you don't know the full pattern.
Rockin' Rusty

So far so good on the wx, maybe a bit overcast. That's a good thing for C/L. I hope the wind doesn't die completely. I'm gonna fly well. And I'm prettying up Tazz since we're having a pilots' choice beauty contest. I hope they have a Profile category.fredvon4 wrote:Hope that WX report holds....

Thanks for all the well wishes, I'll do the best I can. However it all works out, it'll be good knowing you guys are behind me. And Cool Mike too, he and Sam will be there. I believe the younger Londke will be flying in Speed Limit Combat and Beginner Stunt this time, so keep a lookout for our Team CEF flight reports. Also, our top national Control Line promoter Robert(Sparky) Storick of Stunthangar will be there flying too.

I've been dealing with a sinus infection all week and feel like the walking dead. Regardless, I'm packing up the truck today so Samuel and I can get on the road when he gets home from school tomorrow. I really just want to crawl back in bed.

Some crisp Carolina air should help you out. You guys have a safe trip. Let Sam drive the truck.

Mike is and should be a proud dad
Here is a trip back in time that I hope helps him enjoy this weekend despite the sinus infection

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Wait until you see him fly a .40 sized combat ship in a match against grown men this weekend Rusty. Now, Off to Huntersville.

Re: The 2017 Carolina Criterium - Locked and Loaded!
Wish I could be there to see y'all. But I didn't make the trip.
I was staging my gear in the shop Thursday night and was stricken crippled. Holley, in her cast, had to come help me make my way back to the house. I really thought my hip was broken, but xrays say no, likely muscle spasms.
So I seem to be improving some with a walker. VERY painful, but we might try to ride up there tomorrow morning. Holley says we're taking a plane... she's a real optomist, love her. I'm so disappointed I could scream. I really wanted to fly in Advanced just once to make it official. May? That's a long way off. Sunday? Well, we'll see. No reason not to hope.
See y'all in the funny pages.

Live to fly another day... probably best to sit this one out. That really sucks Rusty, don’t get too bummed about it. See if you can get some high end muscle relaxers.
Hope you can at least go and spectate.

Re: The 2017 Carolina Criterium - Locked and Loaded!
The big gun MRs make me too uncoordinated to be safe, but Doc says valium is the best muscle relaxer of all. I only get 2mg twice a day. But I still have my regular breakthrough med, which combined with an extra tylenol, works well. Straight out of bed I'm stiff now, but I bet I'll loosen up soon. I got good sleep, so that has to be good.

6 Trophies for Samuel and I. 3rd place 1/2A Combat, 2nd place Speed Limit Combat and 1st place Intermediate Stunt for me. Samuel got Outstanding Jr. Speed Limit Combat, 1st place Basic Flight and 3rd place Beginner Stunt. He was only 8 points behind 2nd in Beginner Stunt. He flew the entire Beginner Pattern for the first time early that morning before competition started. He'll be killing it next spring. It was a great weekend of flying with perfect weather and an awesome group of guys. The Carolina Gang knows how to run a fantastic event.

RE:2017 Carolina Criterium: Locked and Loaded
Rusty,
I sure am sorry that you are having some more serious health issues after all you've been through. I guess if you live long enough all of us geezers have a lot going on, but you have been the example to me of how to face some really tough stuff and still keep a great attitude and drive to keep going !!!!
I was seriously sidetracked myself from any and all hobbies/fun since the knee issues went ballistic in 2009 and two total knee replacements later with 12 months of recovery and 60 plus Physical Therapy sessions at $300+ each whips you pretty good..
I didn't say anything on a previous thread about med issues but let's say I used up my Medicare donations that I paid at gunpoint since LBJ in 1965 to the tune of about $200 large...My doctor says getting old is not for sissies !!!!!
After I spent most of a day at your home a few years ago and meeting Holly, I often wish, especially after watching one of your vids, that we lived closer see I could hang and learn from a cool teacher !!!!
Hope You get back on your feet and active again soon !!!!!!!
