Guillows Javeline
hi, i purchased the Guillows Javeline kit for $12.50 at my lhs today and it says it can be flow either rubber or gas power. If going gas (which i am) it says to use a dethermalizer. Can someone tell me what a dethermalizer is and how to set one up. Im using one of my cox peewees for power, ill probably only fly it a few times then hang it from the ceiling in my bedroom for display and fly it occasionally.
Thanks guys, MitchG95

Re: Guillows Javeline
Dethermalizer is a simple device that makes the plane stall after a predefined period of time, preventing escape. In practice, the elevator is pulled up by a rubber strip causing the stall. During regular flight, the elevator is kept flat by a long burning fuse. After the fuse burns out, the rubber pulls the elevator up and the plane immediately stalls and lands.

You can do some searching and come up with a bunch of free flight special interest sites that will show more details. Usually the dt is set up to tip the whole stab, not just an elevator.
Mechanical timers are also available (less hassle/fire danger with smoldering dt fuse), but if you are just going to fly it a couple times, probably not worth the cost. There are also some curious devices that use Silly Putty, don't ask me how.
Unless you have square miles and miles of open flying area, provide some kind of dt, even for test flights. I didn't and lost every free flight I built.

Mitch:
I challenge you to COMPLETE and FLY this plane. You hop to hop from project to project more than anyone that I know. And I know a LOT of people.
As to your signature, do you know the commonly accepted meaning of WTF?

Re: Guillows Javeline
I built one of those Javelins when I was a kid. It flew great and was an easy build. I warped the stab and rudder so it would fly nice banked circles. However, if your going to use glow power, use an .010. An .020 may be too much power.
