How does one check to see if the crankshft is worn out? (TD .49)

The TD crankshaft doesn't wear out. It breaks. The case is what wears out. The break occurs either on the crankpin or across the cutout in the front of the shaft typically out of the square edge corners due to not being properly radiused. Ken

Yep! If you have crank rock then the case is shot. If the crank goes then you usually don't have to worry anymore if the case bearing was any good or not.

I suspected as such.
Anybody try re-anodizing to get a case back to tolerance? Anodizing in dilute sulfuric acid causes aluminum parts to "grow" and thick layers are relatively hard too.

I am afraid that re-adonising will not get the case back to tolerance. In order to re-adonise the old adonising needs stripping first to get back to native aluminium. There is always some loss of dimension.
It is easier, if you have the equipment, to rebush the case.
