Yup, electric all the way. I will be transferring the entire R/C radio and motor system out of one of my fomies for this job.

Less weight, less mess and start right now. This Camel is another of my consignment shop purchases, same shop that sold me the F4U, maybe the same builder. This one is near perfect, everything aligns and the fit is perfect. Light as a feather too.

I want to keep it light, maybe tissue but I have never worked with it before. Might do camo Monokote. Any recommendations are welcome.

I am embarrassed to say i haven't even cleaned my work bench off Damn It Bob lol!

Are you going to power it with the same electk out of the fomie ? What size Rubber band does it call of Laughing

I haven't tissued in so long and now with all that has been said about the right stuff to do it with , dont know if i could The lite weight monokote is pretty easy to work with but thin>. Popcorn

lol, i don't know Bob, tissue/dope would be the last thing i'd want to use, if you love the smell of lacquer thinner, maybe go silk!
Modern servos, battery packs, receiver, etc., are a significant weight savings compared to what was out there 30 years ago.

Thanks for that link Mark. Maybe the flat olive drab or tan would do, but I have to see it up there flying around. My son's eyes aren't much better, he puts hi viz orange panels under each wing. I think one of us will eventually total this ME-109 before I get the Camel built. It's a full four channel system like the PO set the Camel up for. Even the battery is unbelievably light. You can see the repaired break in the right wing. Without landing gear it broke the prop too.

Yes Eric, hopefully I won't have to rob one of my Skyraiders systems and use the 109's radio/engine. And.......just to make you feel really bad, I spent the whole morning up in the loft cleaning it up. Wish I had taken a before picture, you could not see the top of the workbenches or much of the floor either. Smile

That's beautiful Bob! Seems a shame to cover it with anything opaque. I'd recommend film though.. the lightest-weight you can find, in the color(s) you prefer. I'm sure you know already.. but be mindful of that short nose. That design can easily end-up tail-heavy.. so leave yourself some options. Carbon-fiber control-rods would save a lot of weight. Your EP system may likely not weigh as much as a comparable IC engine (or the IC engine that the model was originally designed for..) especially if it's a brushless-motor running on a LiPo battery-pack. There isn't much room to move a battery forward if you need to. If you're using a BEC Rx.. that would be a BIG plus.

This Sterling Mono-coupe of my dad's, needed a Higley Heavy-Hub nut, because of the lighter weight of the more modern OS .25FP engine (including it's muffler..) When Sterling later switched to the cheap-plastic cowling.. (as seen on this model) it didn't help matters.

I'll keep that in mind roddie. Short nose can = big trouble.

The fellow that built this Camel may not be the same person that built the F4U. The cCamel is nicely done, the Corsair was really rough in comparison. Just check out this cowling.

This is a tricky one. The airframe on the Camel looks as if it was designed for and to draw strength from a tissue and dope covering but if you have not covered with tissue before - it isn't an easy proposition. It will end up being lighter with tissue if care is taken and, I believe that Brodak also still sell coloured dopes.

With electrickery you don't have to worry about fuel proofing. (Just catching fire!)

There is a tutorial on You tube about covering this model that is worh perusing befor you make a decision.

It just happens to be about covering a Sopwith Camel!

coverlite would look really good on that airplane, I covered a DR1 with green and yellow coverite with the ribs and formers painted black, I came out really nice
