Pretty mad that the Toledo show was cancelled. Even the wife was going, and she hates anything to do with models. We normally do a bit of grocery shopping when we go to the US. Milk, eggs and chicken are a gift there because they don't have price fixing marketing boards like we do. Not much else is a deal with our devalued dollar, except glow fuel. We had already stocked up on TP. It is probably good to self isolate (nice way to say quarantine) We can empty out one or two of the 4 freezers.

I'm personally thankful to have this CEF forum in times like these. WE are truly all a family of modelers.

Re: Elephant in the room
I have 2 school age children, one with autism, and today was utter hell having no school, due to the routine breakdown, homework assignments that lack clear due dates. (obvious milti-day writting project my 5th grader decided must be done before lunch when she was not supposed to have access till 1pm. )
Here's hoping the next 20 days or so go better....
Oh, and I am gutting a bathroom, have to do hardwood, and we are moving to the greater Cleveland area in a few months adding to the mess, now with kids underfoot.

Re: Elephant in the room
I'm thankful for my mistake of buying a large package of paper 2 weeks in a row from Sams club awhile back...when I didn't really even need it then. So, I inadvertently hoarded TP.
Stay home and build a model, clean your engines, sort your parts... Dig deep into the forum and read some threads you may have forgotten or missed. Find some things you can do without leaving your home.
Also, don't watch too much news and listen to too much talk radio.

I'm going to be working so I can pay the people that work for me to stay home. Maybe I can actually get some work done.
Sorry to be cynical, but if you own a small business this stinks.

Its not a matter of being cynical or owning a small business in my opinion, everyone is going to suffer. in one way or another. who do you blame it on, I'll leave that up to you.

Not restricted to your country.OhBee wrote:The entire country has gone mad!
You guys have the toilet paper issue happening too? "EGADS" (to quote Kim).
What is it about the virus scare that makes everyone want to crap (oops ) so much? What about food? I'd rather have food than TP. There are alternatives, but it seems that there are those willing to bash each other over the head to get toilet paper they won't be able to use up for the next year or two.
To those genuinely effected (medically) by the virus, you have my prayers and best wishes. The older you are, the higher the risk, so I ask my more senior friends here to tread carefully.
Personally, I'd just like to get it, spend a couple of weeks on the couch and then get on with life.

I really don't spend a lot of time thinking about it.
I live way out in the sticks of West Virginia, the only state so far that has no reported cases of Coved19. But, the world has gone mad, even this state is on lock-down.

Experimental medicines are on the way. I wash my hands with soap, then wash the tap head. I also spray disinfectant on tap heads. I don't touch my face with my hands when I'm out of home and no drink or eat out of home.
I have been thinking about the modelling projects and read both new and old issues of modelling magazines, I am an armchair modeller now.

Perhaps they want to stay at home for days and stock food. I don't see another reason, but I can't stay at home for several days. It is boring.

Re: Elephant in the room
I was supposed to meet a customer in Westminster Colorado (North of Denver) on March 12th, but the customer politely declined my participation, (official version: not wanting to expose me to a long haul travel from Central Europe in COVID-19 times...unofficial version: some of my US colleagues said it had more to do with the customer's concerns that a Hungarian, living next to North of heavily infected Italy (700 km-s away from here), I may bring the virus into the US with myself....)
I was first disappointed to cancel the trip also because Marriott Denver Airport charged my Mastercard with a 160 something USD room cancellation fee, but then relieved to have not traveled in the wake of recently enacted US rules not allowing Europeans (except from UK) to travel into the USA ...with those rules in place during my stay in the US even my return home would have been in a jeopardy...(several Hungarian vacationers are stuck nowadays in Florida and California not finding airlines to carry them to Europe)
In the meantime the number of people infected with COVID-19 is slowly increasing here in Hungary (some 50 out of a population of 9.7 million, so far with luckily only 1 person dead), with toilet paper also becoming unobtanium in many convenience strores, schools closed, borders sealed, Budapest airport closed, and a - so far - voluntary curfew in place...I work from my home office ...also made it possible to finish and maiden the Quickie 100 racer very soon after it was delivered by the postman
We are all running into a frustrating 2020

From my Rural Broadband internet provider
just a snippet of the 5 paragraph note
"On a country-wide scale you are seeing massive amounts of people sheltering at home and if available, telecommuting into work. Those that do not have an option to telecommute are still stuck at home. Given that the usage of the internet for streaming and high density data transfers are skyrocketing the world over. Big carriers like NetFlix, Hulu, CBS, Fox, Amazon and many others are having their servers and bandwidth overrun on a scale not seen yet in the modern age."

Re: Elephant in the room
It is happening everywhere. Hopefully all my friends and their families here stay safe and can avoid the mass confusion. I am still working and am washing much more frequently. Although we have only 8 cases here in Manitoba, things can change. Even our Walmarts in teh city, as well as local community grocery stores here have had bare shelves on occasion lately. Definately a build-a-plane time.... Or shall I say rebuild.....
