Ed Carlson's passing --- Son picking up and continuing the business.
Hello friends,
I just wanted you to know of Ed Carlson's passing.
I just found out about it today (7/12/23)
I guess Ed passed away earlier this year?
His son Randy has taken on the business.
Randy's new website --- still being updated as it goes.
http://www.carlson-ltd.com/carlsonengineimports.com/#
I don't know Ed death date but here is a website I found that talks about his passing.
https://www.adriansmodelaeroengines.com/catalog/product.php?cat_id=49&pid=198
And I just ordered from Ed Carlson "two" of CS Replica .75 Mills and "three" CS Tiger Cub BB .09 engines from him Sept. 27, 2020.
Georgius engines those Tiger Cub BB .09 engines!
One -- CS Tiger Cub BB .09 engine being modified to fit a PAW muffler.
Regards,
M. McIntyre

Those CS .09's look like very nice engines, seems like they'd work good in a Ringmaster Jr. or Sig Akromaster, or maybe a 36" Sterling P-38 profile, @sosam117 .

Yea, a number of greats have passed on. Tom Runge and others well known at Ace R/C when they were still in business, Joe Wagner, Mr. Engine Guru and model aircraft designer, Sid Axlerod, Lee Renaud, Ken Willard and Randy Randolf, small designers and specialists, Keith Laumer and his free flight (and C/L) designs, Carl Goldberg, Tom Morris, Duke Fox, Leroy Cox, Paul Del Gatto and his half-A designs both free flight and C/L, Bill Winter, Mr. sport plane enthusiast, chief editor of American Aircraft Modeller and AMA Model Aviation, and etc.getback wrote:Sorry to hear this as I am not familiar with the site and business , But very happy to hear his son is taking over . Kind of feel now like we are the last Mohicans of the glow flight world.

Sad thing is, most of the names you mentioned and some missing I did meet them in person and were great modelers willing to help a young kid (me) at some of the model plane contests.
And most of the model plane contest are gone as well.
An example is my club's national soaring contest ---- The S.O.A.R. Nats.
It had the same problem as the Toledo Expo show.
Members were passing away and no newer members were coming into the club.
At one time the SOAR membership was close to 200 members in the mid 1980's
Current membership is around 30 ~ 40 members? Some are active and others pay the dues but never seen?

Reality, it is the sign of the times. Nowadays, kids are into virtual reality through cellphone and PC, now Internet gaming. Saw Kim's video of control line half-A airplanes with the Sentral Club, mostly older men who grew up with these, although there were a few young ones.
C/L was declining in the 1970's, why Cox and Testors cheapened up on their RTF's, the products of the 1960's and earlier were truly impressive. IMO the balsa kit builds are still more impressive.
But, it is what it is.
