2023 Run What YA BRUNG UNLIMITED SPEED Contest

Greetings everyone! I was going through the old threads looking for some sort of challenge to participate in for 2023. This brought me to remembering the 2019 Run What Ya Brung Contest and I was wondering if there was any likely hood of participation by other lovers of the Cox engines. If so, allow me to propose a basic format:
1. Deadline: 25 December 2023.
2. Build a plane ... whatever tickles your fancy.
3. Three classes: Cox .049, Cox .051, or Cox .15
4. No restrictions for line length but actual line length as flown must be reported.
5. Official reported lines to be measured from c/l of handle to c/l of plane.
6. Post video of flight so CEF members can see, time and calculate speeds.
7. Winner categories: 1. Fastest flight, 2. Slowest flight, 3. Closest to Average flight.
8. Prizes: Bragging rights for 2023 (and possibly a printed certificate if someone will volunteer to print them)

I have a 1/2 A Hellrazor that's not built. This could be a neat project for it. The Cox .15's never seem to get any love, this would also be a neat thing to build something for.

Not sure what you're saying? .049, .051 or .15? .049/.051 Tee Dee are identical in performance, maybe .049 reed, .049/.051 Tee Dee and .15?

Hi Mark! Personally, I'm not trying to overthink this in the least! If a person has a Cox .049, Cox.051 or Cox.15 That's all that matters, I s'pose. If someone wants to break it down to reedies or Tee Dees, that up to them. Remember each pilot is really only competing with himself or herself for the "bragging rights" and maybe a certificate if someone wants to volunteer to print them out! I hope that makes sense. The fun will be watching the various videos of the participants having fun. Can you be counted on to give it a go?

By the way, I first proposed that participants build their model. Well, why not open it up to those who have RTF Cox model airplanes too? That would certainly increase the number of participants, don't you think? Anybody interested?

I had started a couple Weatherman profile planes that I never finished. Pretty much like a Perky model. Can not really build any more planes because apparently the CEO says I have too many already. I don't have a paved circle, so that limits what I can run without destroying it on landing. By the way, I have bookmarked the "Run what you brung" article to get me on the CEF site quickly.

Well, so far, as I count that brings the number to five plus me and that would be six 
! Best of all, I believe three of the guys in our local "gang" may participate, though they're not active to this site. That would bring the total to nine. So, unless there's any objection I would ask for agreement on a contest start date of say:
5 September 2023 through 31 December 2023
That gives everyone plenty of time to build, fly, deal with inclement weather, shopping, the holidays, vacations, cook outs, honey-do's and so forth Any objections? suggestions?

Sweet ride !
Back in the day, the model mags had plans for 1/2A 'Mouse Racers'...
We built a few if not, all of them, 1/8th sheet balsa wings...
Small, painted to look like racers. Went fast for our BBs...
Here is the fun part...
We had fresh pavement, with a new U shaped school built around it !
The 'echo' effect sound was awesome... (no kids or school windows were harmed !)
It was great.
Then Richard showed with his painted up, recovered JumpingBean, with the same Cox BabyBee we were running...
And could lap us...
Next year, they put in BB nets and we went on to grass stunt/combat etc...

I had to add a little weight to the tail so I beefed up the horizontal stab and elevator . I sandwiched a used dryer sheet in between 1/16 inch balsa and it makes a nice hinge , it also added a lot of strength. It added just enough weight to balance the model nicely

Looking Good Joe And Duaneh You guys are getting a jump on projects , I did get mine blown off from all the dust with the air compressor and blew the elevator right off the hinges LOL I will ge some pics. up soon ! Oh i was going to say you are balancing the plane as you go with the GB on it ?
