I would for the TD 049... hmm not sure if I have a 049 medallion... may take both off your hands
Re: Hobby King Mini-Stick 580mm "Electric to Cox" Conversion
I picked up a TD .020 for this project.
What fuel tank should I use?

Excellent news Travis.
I stumbled on a site yesterday that advocates using a Peewee
Tank on the back of them I bookmarked it on work PC so I'll
Dig it out tomorrow.
When I get round to sticking a TD on the Bacaruda I'm going
To try out with Rusty's balloon cigar tube option.

mine
//////i picked up one of those arf stick kits last year but never even started on it yet. I was going to go with 3 of the 5g servos from HK and their 2.4G rx/tx and anywhere from peewee020/TD020 or the TD049 I have on my littlest stick once my littlest stick is no longer flyable but it keeps on going up so I havn`t swapped it out for this 1 yet but its looking like a very nice option for that cox flight contest coming up seing as how I will have a tough time keeping airframes flyable through a contest

I was thinking more of a regular tank, any thoughts on what size/type?
Re: Hobby King Mini-Stick 580mm "Electric to Cox" Conversion

thanks i'll need some luck, my kid thinks he's a better flyer (and probably is) and will have to fight with him on who flies it first! That and trying to convince him that a little expo is our friend, I've got a ton of throw dialed in.
Re: Hobby King Mini-Stick 580mm "Electric to Cox" Conversion
Just go easy on the controls, dont over correct! good luck with which one flies the plane first

Re: Hobby King Mini-Stick 580mm "Electric to Cox" Conversion
...so ran out to flyin' field tonight after work, had about 1/2 hour of light left, no wind and almost 35f, not bad. Plane flew great, a little sensitive, but with practice do-able.
While trying to fly it inverted it started to lose altitude, stalled it about 30' up, it snapped and it went straight in...only to bounce a little off the snow, broke prop thats it!

It sure will be nice when there's no more snow in our pictures. Glad you didn't bust anything serious. Is that a wing that just doesn't like to fly inverted very well?

If I read the plans right the mini-stick has twisted wing tips and lots of dihedral. It also has a flat bottom wing. Inverted would be difficult especially without ailerons.
I am pretty impressed you tried it. Nice thing about small models is they are comparatively stronger than their larger counterparts.

Re: Hobby King Mini-Stick 580mm "Electric to Cox" Conversion
thanks everybody! Yep, i think it will a fun li'l plane to take to the R/C field (or high school) alone or with others.
Rudder with a lot of dihedral is tuff, it can be fun, challenging but fun, with a lot of throw it was barrel rolling pretty tight. i'm actually thinking i might build another wing, take out most of the dihedral and go symmetrical with ailerons.
If it weighed 300g, i'm sure i'd be picking up a lot of pieces.

Nice job, yeah the dihedral makes inverted more tricky than a wing with no dihedral.
Meanwhile,in the spirit of "well someone had to say it" I`ll throw it out there, wasn`t this suposed to be a cox powered plane?
How disapointing to hear the maiden was e power instead of COX powered
I`m just crackin on you, nice job.
I`ll make mine cox powered

Re: Hobby King Mini-Stick 580mm "Electric to Cox" Conversion
I received two of the Hobby King Mini-Stick planes today. I got the ARF versions because the USA warehouse didn't carry the kit versions. But, at $29 per kit, it wasn't too much of an inconvenience. They are pretty nice, other than the fin/rudder and the stab saddle that I had to do a lot of sanding on to get it come out parallel to the wing. I also got seven of the 5 gram servos for the two kits, just in case one of the servos was DOA. The one I'm putting together first will have a TD.020 on it. After I see how that flies, I might put a Sure Start with a balloon tank on the other. Sorry, no build pics as I got excited when they got here and just started gluing. I'll post pics when I'm done with the first.
