How do you guys do it?
I have 11 planes hanging up and 2 in the works. I ordered another already. How do you not end up with 10,000 planes?

You say that; like it's a "bad thing"...

Because I don't have 10,000 sets of plans yet.

I have seen folks that have sheds/barns/shops full of planes and others with just a few. I myself have more than I need.
I think when first bit by the bug we go nuts and try and find every cool model we can get our hands on, then eventually we take stock and slow down.
Enjoy the ride.

in my experience... the welt from the "bug-bite" never completely goes away!

The sooner that we realize; that most of us involved in this hobby, are children residing in "adult bodies"... the sooner we will understand our infatuation!

No kidding man. I'm finishing my akromaster, building a twister, and taking a year hiatus from building because I have no where to store the big ones I'm building. Of course I've started the twin mustang and there are two 1/2a multi engine scale contest two weeks apart in October. Then I'm done I swear. But if we do the speed contest next year I will need something new. Once I figure out the twister a full fuselage .46 size stunter would be cool, and my club is talking about a sport speed event. Crap, better get a bigger house.

I have surprisingly few planes to fly. One Stunter that could start shedding bits at any time and another one in the box that I'm planning to build and fly in the May contest. The Shoestring still flies, but not much of a stunter. My best baby Streak was recently slagged, but my other Baby Streak is good to go. And My Tee Dee powered Li'l Satan flies like a rocket. Got a new Brodak one in the box. I never fly my Blackhawk Kom Bat, just too much like a toy plane. The Refried Bean is a mess with a folded wing.
I like to let people try flying my planes when they seem interested, and that's part of why my fleet is so slim. The Yak-9 is finally looking like an airplane, I'm about tired of building it, but it'll be worth it as a fun flyer. I'm hoping it will surprise me and stunt better than I've been told.

Re: How do you guys do it?
The surest way for me to generate an Ebay purchase, engine, kit, or "other item", is to proclaim, "OK...ENOUGH...I got ENOUGH gear! Let's have a little discipline here, and work on the projects in progress!!!"
Precisely on cue, something will pop up that I MUST have for a current or future project. Spread this illness out over 40 years, and you got yourself a shop and storage building chocked full of toy airplane stuff.
Add to that, currently flying planes that crash and simply WILL NOT be allowed to die, assisting friends with their stuff, and other unrelated pursuits that compete for minutes from the day, and things back up quick.
With great personal pain, I HAVE decided to start selling the kits and stuff that I know I won't build or use, and am gonna pull a second retirement to hopefully get some of these stalled projects moving...and actually have some fun.
I am a "Passion Builder" in that I must be in the mood to pick up an exacto knife and start hacking on a plane. If I try to force myself to work on something, the result looks as if a stranger had broken into the shop and messed with my stuff. So, I just got to "wait for the fire."
Once in a while though, you get that super-high when a plane finally gets finished and takes it's first flight, so in my opinion, about the best a guy can do is to try to maintain something similar to self control, and as Ron said, "Enjoy the ride!"

Adding planes is not hard. Like a fellow I know who collects antique tractors. He just moves them around once a month, so when he adds one it's no big deal. No darling, I've had that one for years.

Re: How do you guys do it?
Know a guy that pulls the same trick with his gun purchases..."Why, Sweetie...that pistol has been hanging there forever! Remember ? You shot it last summer!"
We're conspiring, at some point to sneak up to his house, and put a couple of rifle boxes in his burn barrel out back, so the Mrs. will spot them when she clears paperwork out of her in-home office...
What else are friends for ???
