I need a plane for an cox 049
Hi
Just looking for an ideal rc plane for a cox 049. I don't mind what type of flight characteristics it does its just i am iching to put it in a plane now.
3-4 chanal is most ideal. It does have a throtle and i would like a kit that is easy to build as i don't have much building experience.
Thanks in advance

The Herr Cloud Ranger can be purchased for less than $50 through SIG.
It's a 3 channel for .049-.061 glow or electric.

I have looked for a stockiest of this highly recommended model and cannot find it anywhere in the UK.
The only 049 RC models I have found are

Yes it does need to be from the uk idealy.
Thanks for the replys
The pipin seems to be the most ideal chose but my local hobby shop sell 049 kits but they are free flight. So as an rc model kit would be better, is there an easy way to convert a ff kit like a Ben buckle southerner mite or pirate to rc. The troble is i like to see what I am buying.

There are many electric planes that can easily be "converted" to a proper power source...
Planes originally designed for "Speed 400" motors are of a good size and they will end up lighter on glow too.

The Herr Cloud Ranger is pretty heavy for a .049. It has some pretty dense balsa in the kit.
One other option is a Goldberg Gentle Lady with a Cox power pod on the top of the wing.

Do you mean the "Beguine"?
I don't have it myself but it seems to be a beginners plane. These planes should fly very slow and stable and therefore have a large wing area with plenty of low speed lift and a low total weight. The low wingloading requires days with little wind but then they will almost fly themselves, sort of guided freeflight. Just build it light and it will fly fine on a cox .049. At full throttle you should have a gentle climb, then reduce throttle and glide around.

Yes I ment beguine but i never thought a cox 049 would be powerful enough, especially sines the guy at my local hobby shop recommended an os 10

Re: I need a plane for an cox 049
Well an OS .10 would give you unlimited vertical, but that is hardly the design idea behind the plane...
Do you have any more data, such as wing area and recommended weight?
To me the construction, profile of the wing etc, indicates and old-school design. These have a high wing incidence, and high-lift profile wing, in order to give plenty of lift at low speeds. A cox engine should provide about 300-400g of thrust at full throttle, certainly enough to fly a plane of around 500g in weight if the wingloading is low. The plane will fly off the wing, it will not hang from the prop like many electric planes are flown nowadays.

The wing span is 41 inches and chord is aprox 15 cm and recomended max weight is about 530g i will be using 3x 9g servoes

Re: I need a plane for an cox 049
That would make a wing area of about 240 inch^2, to me this is fine for .049-.074 engines. Just keep the weight low and it will fly fine off the wing.
The throttle servo can be less than 9g if you want to, use lightweight covering and a lightweight fuel tank from Bernie etc.
As a comparison, a .10 engine will provide more than adequate power for a thunder tiger Scooter (57" WS, 400 inch^2, 700g), which is a similar style of plane.
