Stopped by the local sign shop today.
Last year the local sign shop gave me some scraps for the asking, and I’ve been using them for various coroplast trainers. Since I knew I was going to be over that way today, I threw a coroplast trainer that I’d built in the car so that they could see what their donated coroplast had turned into. The guy behind the counter liked it, and had me take it over to the shop owner to show her. She liked it quite a lot. Then she showed it to the other shop guy cutting in the back. It was a big hit all around. She asked me if I wanted some more coroplast. I said sure. So she let me pick through her scrap bin. This is about 1/10th of the stuff in the bin today:

She said to come by anytime if I wanted more, but this is years’ worth already. We got to talking, and she said she’s always trying to find ways to give the scraps to the local schools to use for something. She said her neighbor is a school teacher, and that she’d ask the neighbor if the school had any kind of program where they’d build model airplanes. I gave her my number, so maybe we can get some kind of school volunteer program going. The company I work for is always pushing for more school volunteering, so maybe I can get volunteer hour credit for this. So many maybe’s.

Good for you, Mark.
There were several of us old f@rts at the LHS last Saturday swapping lies and nostalgia. The owner, my age and a builder, said he sells only BARFs and very rarely moves any kits now. We were bemoaning the fact that builders are few and far between. Any time you can get kids interested in the hobby is a plus, especially since our numbers are shrinking.
The Balsa Beavers ManWin Trainer is an excellent use of coroplast and a great way to get kids interested in flying.

Very Cool Mark! Do you have a pic of the plane you brought with you? I'd like to try a coro-plast build. Transparent or "crystal-clear" would be cool if that type is made. or "prismatic"..

Hey Mark, the school project sounds like a great idea.
Good example and influences are important to kids of all ages, and if even one out of 30 gets a new good hobby out of this it's a victory
And being able to get free materials for their projects will help kids with limited financial resources. One could build a glider for practically free, or an electric C/L for a few dollars i guess. Or a rubber-band plane for the price of a propeller and the motor.
I really appreciate your effort for the kids and your community.
