Wow! 38 on my porch this AM with strong N wind, heat on 73 still fells cold to me. My hats off to you Northern folks, I am a real puss!
Down here we have a thing called falling iguanas, don't stand under trees. LOL On the plus side its easy to pack my Commander with this many layers on, prints a bit in a T shirt.

Re: How's the weather?
One of the coldest days I have ever spent was in Florida, make that two. Just remembered 12 above in Jacksonville when my '52 Chevy two door with the "stove-bolt" six wouldn't start. But this story is about central Florida just above Tampa with snow flying and cold winds coming in under the sliding glass doors. Even the scorpions' were frozen. Heat pump couldn't keep up with it.
Yes, on the news this morning about the falling Iguanas. Leave them alone, just cold and immobile they will warm up.

Don't know what it is about Fla. cold, seems worse. I have been on a mountain in 10 below, bandana over face was frozen from my breath but keep the wind out.
This seems worse. The lizards are not docile, in a boatyard a while back a dozen surrounded me and one attacked my hand and shredded my index finger. Teeth like razors, I would just as soon lop their heads off. Invasive species.

I know, and I'm from New Hampshire. Difference is, houses were built for it and actual heat from coal/wood/oil all that nasty polluting stuff.

Re: How's the weather?
We've just had two days of steady rain. Normally unheard of this time of year. I guess it's helping the firefighters here in Victoria but the changeable winds have caused some flair-ups in New South Wales. If all this stuff hasn't been bad enough, they're now telling all those who collect rain water in tanks to flush out their tanks following rain because of the heavy particulates in the air due to the fires and smoke, even well away from the fires where it was really smokey. The middle of summer telling people to empty their water supply? Sure!!
Another consequence of our drought has been dust storms. We woke up this morning to a heavy layer of red mud, having rained out of the sky overnight. This dust is from 100s of KMs away. There were bright orangy red drip lines on the ground around our cars, which all need a thorough rinse off.
I'm not sure what's going to happen about summer. Seems like we've already had it, wheras normally we'd just be comming into the hottest part of the year. I'm not wanting to start a debate about climate change, but something's sure wrong!

No way my heat would hold a 42 degree spread, once it gets behind it won't catch up. Electric heat no fireplace. 60 this morning with heavy fog at 9:30, winds gone and humidity's back.
Back to flip flops. No more raining lizards.

Re: How's the weather?
Well, it is going to hit us again tonight this darn cold stream. Hit -45 F here last night and stayed consistantly around -15 to -20 F all day today and is looking like it will also be hitting the -45 F again tonight. Hopefully they are right and will sloooooooly be warming up after that for good. Not much one can do in this weather other than read this forum and do some building..... Hope everybody else is doing alright out there.

Re: How's the weather?
Our Summer is still hovering around the high 20s (C) but the worst thing at the moment is that we've had around 80%-90% humidity all week. Feels like we're in the tropics, just no-where near a beach.
At lease the humidity really slows down the wildfires. Glad to see them mostly sorted out.

Re: How's the weather?
Hi temp here yesterday was 53F (clear), and the high forecast for today is 44F (cloudy). Low was only 39F, but that isn't bad.
One of the reasons I love the PNW, is the moderate climate! Rarely gets to 100F in mid-summer, and cools off at night to our usual 50F+ so I can super cool the house with a window fan. Great insulation retains the low temps through most of the following day.

Re: How's the weather?
Still hovering about 30ºC at 7.30pm and we just had around an inch and a half of rain in the past two hours. Roof gutters and drains just couldn't cope with everything overflowing.
Had some serious lightning, with one flash only a split second before the thunder, so I'll be looking out for a local fried tree somewhere nearby.

Re: How's the weather?
Not exactly temperature related, but with the high levels of rain in the Mississippi and Ohio River basins, the Corps of Engineers is managing water flows to try to minimize flooding downstream by holding and releasing water in the lakes feeding the Ohio. Currently, the flow rate through KY Dam is 370,000 cfs -- that is a lot of water. Although it's cold, it is sunny here and I plan a walk across the dam and locks this afternoon -- with that high flow, the dam vibrates and hums -- pretty exhilarating.

LOL!! No.
But I wouldn't get within 3/4 mile either side of the dam with a large power boat. At this high rate of flow, it's pretty scary.

Re: How's the weather?
Which reminds me, when my daughter Grace was 9 or 10 YO (nearly 20 years ago), I helped her make a boat about 15" long out of 1.5" thick blue foam insulation board, square sail with a small cabinet laminate rudder. She sailed it with her class at the zoo pond. It beat all the boy's sailboats, won 1st place.andrew wrote:LOL!! No. But I wouldn't get within 3/4 mile either side of the dam with a large power boat. Several days ago, we had our 2nd snow a week after the first, several inches at a time. We've been hitting a chilly low 40's F (4 C) days with mid 20's (-4 C) nights. Certainly not arctic Canadian or northern US weather, and there are still occasional motorcyclists on the road. Such are the penalties of living in the higher elevations of the lower longitudes of US.

(Seriously, I am not mocking those who have truly bad misfortunes compounded by harsh weather conditions.)

Re: How's the weather?
Yet another storm coming to the UK. We just had storm Ciara with 100 + mph winds, 12 inch of rain .........and now we are bracing for storm Dennis.
Storm Dennis: Experts warn flooding could be worse than Ciara
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51512824
Definitely not flying weather!
