Re: How's the weather?
Still very dry in Western KY!!! Temps in the mid-90's. Storm came thru last evening, some rain, wind (lost power for a short time) and hail. Luckily, mostly dime sized, but there had been predictions for up to 2".
Re: How's the weather?
Hi All, (from just west of Toronto,Canada)
Local 'pop up' thunderstorms here. Humid. Hot for end of June.
Weird how the ' potential thunderstorms' just evolve, dump rain, and somehow 'evaporate', go on their way.
Form again.
The usual Jet Stream is missed here, so far...
Here is the latest smoke map:
https://firesmoke.ca/forecasts/current/
Hope you are well,
Where you are,
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave
P.S. Tomatoes are looking good...

Re: How's the weather?
Not really "weather" as such, but my wife & I were awoken at around 1:30am this morning with the house rattling on its foundations. Turns out to be a 4.6 quake centred around 40km away from us. Special new bed we got must have soaked everything up because I felt nothing, but the doors were doing a merry old dance and the iron roof was creaking. No obvious damage here and it seems that everywhere else escaped, but it was certainly disconcerting. I went straight back to sleep, but it was the end for my wife. She was awake all night after that.
Rod.

Re: How's the weather?
Past week, the temperatures here have been hovering around 100°F (38°C), highest 103°F. Today was a little cooler.
Rod, it is good you were not near the epicenter. I see that it spooked your wife, though.
It was around 1987, (a little lazy to look it up), we experienced the Whittier Narrows Earthquake, was around 6.1. We were 30 miles from the epicenter. It cracked the plaster in several interior walls. My wife and son, a toddler were at home. I was at work 12 miles away. A little further from the epicenter, my desk was sliding back and forth for a couple inches about 10 seconds. (Can't say for sure, but since building was 4 stories, has some type of shock resistant foundation.)
After, we evaculated the building. Fire department did a quick inspection before we went back in. In the stairwells had a few gypsum board cracks.
What was even freakier was in the early 1970's, still in college. The sky was smokey (like Los Angeles smog haze) filled with a wierd soot that looked like burnt newspaper ash strings. Kilaeua Volcano had erupted on the Big island of Hawaii, spewing ash. We were about 300 miles away from that Island being in Honolulu on Oahu island.

Re: How's the weather?
Hi All,
Condolences about the weather you are enduring...
Tough, when the tough have to get going...
Hope you are all well...
Here,
On Canada Day, we like firing off Fireworks...a long Tradition.
The weather here July 1st at 10PM is calm....
I wonder if they will let off the fireworks...
The barge off Bronte harbour is moored. So I'm guessing yes.
Not sure why, but a slight wind shift will cover our town with sulfur/etc more dust. (rather than dumping in Lake Ontario)
Along with the 'Canadian smoke' we breath and have tried to avoid the last weeks.
I'll be there,
Who does not like fireworks?
It is a fallen tree. Burst into flames.
Just like the Canadian wildfires...
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave
P.S. Good luck on July 4th. All of our good fireworks, come from China.

Re: How's the weather?
Winter time here.
Nowhere near as cold as it gets for a lot of you, but 5ºC is pretty darn cold for us. Wife and I went for a drive last weekend in a mountain tourist area. Lots of nice cafes and antique shops etc. As we entered one shop we made a comment to the shopkeeper about how cold it was. She explained that she'd just had a guy in there from Alaska who thought it was quite a mild day. "This isn't cold!!" He was more accustomed to 30º below.
You can keep that!

The smoke from Canada was so bad on Thursday in Philly that visibility was less than a mile. It was far worse Thursday opposed to a few weeks ago.

Hi gg,
I guess the word 'naked' means rude things to others...?
But, it is just a word.
Here are the Bare Naked Ladies, covering Bruce Coburn on their first video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGsDlb2ziAk
Had fun.
They made millions, from a song, "If I had a Million Dollars"
That, is the naked truth.
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave
P.S. Stinking hot/humid here, on this computor too much...

Appropriate use of nekkid is with motorcycles.HalfaDave wrote:I guess the word 'naked' means rude things to others...?But, it is just a word.

https://www.kawasaki.com/en-us/motorcycle/eliminator/Cruiser/Eliminator/2024-eliminator

(Sorry, just messin' with you, Dave.)

Actually, when it comes to people in general, unless clarified like nekkid in an uncowled engine on an aircraft or vehicle, the word nekkid always implies a delving into the dark side beyond Cox engines and general hobby interests. It implies more than just words. Sometimes, what appears as non-thought provoking humor can be a turnoff to further productive discussion in a thread. Hence, this is why I refrain from using it in other contexts.

- Found the following to be an interesting read:
- Seeker: Reality Check, No, we didn’t just have the hottest week in 100,000 years
(In a similar vein, saw a different story traveling along one of the busiest main highways US east and west, I-40 during 4th of July holiday travel. It wasn't busy as the boob toob talking faces stated.)
Now it's 93°F (34°C) and cloudy with 8 MPH (13 km/h) wind from the west. According to you CEF climatologists,

How's the weather in your locales?
And for the small engine flyers (fun flies) and fryers (hot pedal-to-the-metal speedsters, really cooking, boiling that Castor and combusting that synth ---> fast) and builders / restorers
doing in your weather today?

Re: How's the weather?
Got a little bit of rain tonight, roared for may be 20 minutes while at a worship band rehearsal for a 6 church local singing get together tomorrow. Tooted on my soprano sax, had an old Gospel tune done to blues (can't remember name now) that I got to wail a solo on.
Temperature is now 75°F (24°C). Rain helped to cool things a little.
