Competition
Competition for my attention.
Model airplanes have been taking a back seat for the last few days as I play with my new toy.
I gave up on the idea of a Honda CR-Z hybrid as a replacement for my MGB and wound up with this 2003 Mazda Miata (MX5) with 127K miles on the clock and a rompin stompin 1800 cc twin cam under the hood.
I cruised at a comfortable 80 mph on the way home and it wasn't even breathing hard, something the MGB would never do.
A few cosmetics to attend to then I'm on the road again.....

Re: Competition
Very nice Bob! I'm not surprised by your attraction to the Miata. My Uncle had one. It was actually his second one before selling it and a Harley together recently to buy a BMW roadster. Still in his garage.. under a tattered canvas tarp, is a 65 MGB. It hasn't moved in 40+ years. It was repainted the original light-blue color just before he retired it. The main reason he took it off the road was his enlistment in the USAF.. but the car also needed front-suspension parts that were hard to find. I'm sure you know what parts I'm referring to. It's the integral strut/control-arm assemblies. At the time, J.C. Whitney had a retro-fit design available.. but he didn't want to go that route. Today.. you wouldn't want to run it on the pump-gas that's available.. without pulling the cylinder-head and having the valve-seats hard-faced. Of course.. for the infrequent "blast".. you can pay $5.00+/gal. for 100LL aviation-fuel from the local airport.
Good luck with the Miata! You may want to invest in a radar-detector!

Re: Competition
For a while I had a deep addiction to very small cars as they were generally reliable and not so thirsty as my 400+ HP cars
I briefly owned two MGs and a small Toyota/ 2 Datsun-Nissan/ 1 Mazda/ 1 Opal/ 2 Smart cars
Always wanted a Mazda Miata, but for a few years they commanded ABOVE MSRP because of demand so never got a new one
Now get yer butt back to the air crate please
Color me respectfully jealous

Congrats Bob! I also like l'il sports cars and often think about how fun it would be to own the Mazda, there's a pretty active group nationwide that races them or just to used for parking lot autocross.
