160mah lipo battery is missing in the pic it will show up in the mail today weight is rated at 2g if I recall.
Very low weight for all the gear, leaving me good wiggle room for the all up weight with plane to be low.

Did a mock up to see if everything will fit in a new design called DART .010
Target weight 2oz ready to fly aiming for 130 mph.

Brad,

Is the R415X receiver you use compatible with Futaba 2,4GHz transmitters?
The HiTec micro servos you selected are also my favorites in my 010-020 sized RC planes.

Thanks, András

Stated: Compatible with all DSMX/DSM2 transmitters

I know they work with the Spektrum DSM2 is what I am using.
For the RX connector is JST 1.25mm spacing.

The servos I bought are 1mm so had to buy some Micro JST 1.25 3-Pin Males
to swap out.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/20-Sets-Micro-JST-1-25-3-Pin-Male-Female-Connector-plug-with-Wires-Cable-US-Ship-/171756354147?hash=item27fd79fa63:g:NIoAAOSwv0tVL5SN

The HK 2g servo already has the correct 1.25mm connectors I have some of
them in the mail.

HS-35 Ultra Nano servo vs the new gear

1.3g MPI micro switch (used for the NANO -.010) vs the new micro switch .3g for the (DART -.010)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261239451325?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

As you can see the DART-10 will be very light weight and small, ready to fly around 2oz. The DART is
made to go 130 mph and will be the limit with current RC technology. Servo torque, size of the
components and their weight is the control factor. It will be some years in the future before new
tech allows something smaller / faster for the TD .010.

Thank you Roddie and András,

I have built a few swept wings they tend to roll faster with small planes this can get you in trouble fast.
I also built a swept forward wing it would refuse to stall. The NANO has a small sweep in the front
and more aggressive tapper in the back. The airfoil is thicker in the center and tappers a bit to the tips.
Thus this wing is a triple tapper wing as I call them. Currently I have shown what a TD .010 and TD .020
can do in regards to speed with the NANO and Lil Speedy. The TD .020 has more prop testing to do
I feel it can be faster than the TD .010 once I have dialed in the correct prop. A 3x5 would be worth
trying. The new version NANO II is in order 2oz RTF with a 2.2x4 prop for 145 mph plane. See the new
post on the Lil Speedy some new has happened there too. The NANO is the fastest TD .010 RC 2ch
plane in the world I should summit my work to the AMA for record keeping once I am satisfied with
the top speed of the NANO II.

I have completed the NANO II all up weight 48.2 / 1.7oz

Down to covering and horns / push rods. Build time about
7 hrs worth bit slow as I was careful along the way making
choices. With a set game plan now could cut the time in half.

This one will bust 160mph +  it weighs 1/3rd less and is much
more leaner with a 28sq. in wing. The original wing was 43 Sq.In.
The drag is reduced by 30% by having a thinner airfoil, very skinny fuselage
tail moment is longer allowing smaller thinner tail feathers for a very fast plane.
Thrust can be 1:1 for constant speeds in all directions and blistering vertical
climb outs.

Prop will be a 2.4x4N / 42.2k rpm / 160 mph!

As I mentioned before, speed is not my thing, but I'm sooooo impressed by what you have accomplished so far.

Keep doing it and there are many of us who are very interested in what you are doing.

20.8 grams for all the non flying stuff is pretty amazing too.

Thank you gents!!!

I have finished the primary colors for the NANO II
Goal is to be able to see the plane at 150+ mph.
Neon Colors are going to blur at times they are the most
visible to the human eye in the blue, white or grey sky.
Will add some black badging on the wing #10 and NANO II

Now 1.97oz with all the gear less horns and push rods.

Looking at the design there has been quite a few improvements.
No telling where this one will end up top end wise. I should report
the findings to AMA when I am happy with the results. I have a
radar gun will get some official vid with real time readings. Summit
some photos of the build log. Perhaps they will do a write up in the
AMA mag as this is unusual for a wee lil TD.010.

I added the number 10 and flushed in the wing not sure if that's it
would need to go to a graphics shop for NANO II badging.

Stage II with the NANO -TD .020

All up weight is 97g / 3.42 oz RTF

Major drop in weight compared to it's previous use in the Lil Speedy.
Weight was just at 5.1oz so 1.6oz drop and in drag.

3 x 4.5N / 37.5k / 160 mph.
3.3 x 4.5N / 36k / 154

Best pass of 38.6k with the thicker airfoil, width and bit more heavy carbon 3030 / 106 mph.
With the wee lil NANO the carbon prop will bust 40k and get about 114 mph.

Nice light weight platform to push some rpm. CG needs adjusting will have to move the battery back some. Engine
looks right at home and weight seems just fine in the hand. Run time will be about 3.20 ish mins I have used a 5cc
tank before with this engine on the original Lil Speedy. Removed the throttle sleeve should fly consistently fast in
all directions.

NANO II - TD.010
Did a maiden flight the throws for the ailerons where too much the video was short so will not post.
I hope to dial it in this weekend. Will post a good vid at that point for now here is a launch sequence
shot to update this thread.

I have trim flight vids now on the NANO II -TD.010

Used a lower pitched 2.7x3N prop to keep it tame enough while the throws get dialed in.
I am down to 18% aileron and 22% elevator, very minimal movement but enough to hold
a solid continuous roll with enough elevator to make fat loops. RPM has increased with
this prop from its last use with the original NANO. RPM jumped up another 1.74k on the
lower weight and size plane. This is promising once I go back to the 4P props. Goal is
140mph.  Currently it has hit 118 mph in the first trim flight the 2nd flight I was flying
much closer as I dialed in the lil beast. Amazing fast micro using a 1S 110 mah cell for
the RX 2.7g and 2g servos the micro switch is very small and everything including range
is fantastic this is a big move forward in micro IC planes with just a 15.5in span 28 Sq. In.

Brad I dooooooooooooooo admire your achievements and while for some time I was planning to follow you with similar builds I must now think twice if I really want to frustrate myself with something that will surely not even catch up with yours....so I keep flying my also home-made, but less vivid R/C stuff on 010, 020 049 and 051 powerplants

Congrats, also, a unique contribution to the fame and reputation of COX engines...I wonder if the 39+k tach will leave any mark on the conrod ball socket connection?

The engine has done 41,980 (best) in the 1st trim flight video it did 41,538 rpm
I have not reset the ball socket nor change the glow plug from the very first flight
of the original NANO. The engine has over a 100 flights thus far and is best left alone.
The props weigh half the weight of a stock prop and the loads are far less then typical
very light air frames and low drag. The current design can be increased to a 20 inch span
for a more visible flying plane with additional lift should you use a stock prop fly 50 mph
and groove around with ease during a breezy day.

This plane is set up for extreme end of the spectrum and not recommended for most folks.
The gear is small and a bit more fussy to handle after getting use to it though it is less fussy.

I flew 4 flights on a 1S lipo 110mah battery and have enough juice left for at least 3 more flights.
Charged is 4.2v just now check it still has 3.95v I drew down .25v will charge up and see how
many mah used. The micro 1.7g RX will function from 3.6v to 9v.
Look how small the switch and charging jack is: Eyebrows

Brad I was always wondering if the modifications you do are based on some precalculation of areas, weights etc. or simply on your routine and gut feelings?

I am looking forward to seeing your next flight video (as much as these flashing critters remain visible at 100 + mph speed)

I bought a new high graphics computer so I can use a 4k monitor
3840 x 2160 Ultra HD resolution this will allow using a 4k camera.
These small ones have proven to be very fast tracking them with
the 4k sports cams will be a big plus. I use a 32in monitor just to
enjoy the vids 2ft in front of me currently at 1080 x 720 HD.

The new processor has 6 cores 8GB / Graphics 2GB / solid state 250GB hard drive.
The storage is your typical SATA 1T  motor driven of course however the solid state
has shown to move 640MB per second this makes for some awesome vid and gaming.

The designs are based on observation many years of design / builds, calculated power
and known power prop combinations. Learning how small in Sq. In. the wings can be
for a given weight is also very key to high speed success with good landing speeds.
The NANO I changes in the last posted photos is based on it's known abilities.
Reduction was in order as landings where too easy lift was excessive with a .010.
That design allows 4g servos. 4cell 200mAh NiMH batteries more typical and familiar
to the micro flying folks. It is now a TD .020 plane not suitable for me as a TD .010
however it is very suitable for anyone trying there hand at micro speed with a TD .010.
The new drawing will be perfect for a top end performer Sq. In is adequate.

The NANO II is highly refined to fit very very small servos, RX and battery S1 110mah
lipo is unheard of for IC use. With a 2.2oz RTF weight it is extremely light and fast.
I look forward to documenting the next level of flying with a 4K cam.

It has become useless to try and capture the NANO II with my current camera as
only close passes show detail the rest is just a gauge in motion of what, where it is.
The 3 pitch prop in the vid kept is slow enough to track with the 1080P cam. The
new 2.4x4 prop will have it going way too fast to track well without the use of the
4K camera. The wing is very small 15.5in span 28 Sq At 145 mph this will be a real thrill to fly.
It will require I use special sunglasses called (blue blockers) enhances light for crisp clarity.

This vid was my wake up call to improve the camera and my sunglasses.
At 118 mph NANO II is just as hard to track at a distance as the NANO I going 130 mph.

NANO II

NANO I

The solid thrust through out the flight with this TD .049 needs the 4k cam too.
I have stopped recording the flights a while back to upgrade everything I'm
closer now with the new computer already a notable improvement to view the previous
flight vids. I need to research cameras next. This video has taught me what is
possible with a 6.19oz TD .049 plane with 60sq. in. wing. I sound calm on the mic
but it was a handful only previous experience with the plane allowed me to get through
the flight without loosing site of it. I have a new design in the works just for the TD .049
With a 5P prop 150mph can be reached during a down wind pass.
