Re: Bernies Black Springs
Is that the Tarno John? I may get a couple of springs myself as the TD's require more flips than a reedie!

Re: Bernies Black Springs
Tee dee are are harder to start as we have higher conp head and usually a smaller prop so less flywheel for starting.

If you've ever seen what we used to call a Mini Dead Stick (MDS engine) you'd see what I mean, it's not
the thing of beauty that a Cox is and looks a bit 'orrible 'anging off it.
As for Springs once you've had one Trust me none of you will want to go back to that flipping lark....

Re: Bernies Black Springs
I always thought flipping props was a manly art and I will continue to be a practionioner of that art. (Besides I don't like the marks springs leave on crankcase snouts)

Re: Bernies Black Springs
I too, in my old age, have had to go on the spring. My TD is much more cooperative now. My hands and fingers have led a hard life... I suppose it was time.
It's a rather mild spring compared to the heavy duty Bee springs.

That's my problem, since coming back to modeling I've found the only skill that hasn't come back is flipping a prop, I seem to have lost the knack in my old age, springs and starters are a necessity now I'm afraid

Re: Bernies Black Springs
We also have them in silver for those that prefer them un-plated. Not listed but a note on the order to change for silver will do the trick.

Good to know Bernie! Thanks.

Re: Bernies Black Springs
Spring starters are far more evil to the fingers than flip starting!
But electrics starter?
Serious.

It does look a tad bulky, how does it perform? You could always hide it away in a cowl

Yes, for $14.95
Re: Bernies Black Springs
No, we do not share production with Davis.
We used to buy the following items fr. DD:
Heavy duty cranks
Diesel head conversions
Due to insufficient margins and too high retail costs we decided to run our own productions.
The TD springs are our own invention, the Heavy Duty (Killer Bee) cranks are from OEM Cox drawings and the diesel heads are a DD clone (unintended but a long story).

Oh ok I would have thought that unintended "similarity" would have gotten you into trouble with Davis.
But cool thanks for answering the question.
Re: Bernies Black Springs
No, there is nothing that Davis can do about this aside from being peeved (rightfully so).
Anyone can copy any of our products as well and there is nothing that we can do about it either.

Re: Bernies Black Springs
Many have but not really selling them.
Especially those surestart choke tube carbs many have built those.

Re: Bernies Black Springs
Nice looking spring setup. I generally use larger props so I don't yet need one, but when I do I think I will get a black one.
I do have a couple of NORVEL springs that came with the Big Mig Startup. The spring fits in a groove on the plastic mount and hooks into a hole drilled in the Big Mig (Startup) mounting lug. Big Migs not set up as Startups could not use the spring. They may have changed that in later runs. That was in pre-Revlite days.
In any case, nice addition to the Tee Dee line.
