Hello all!

Has anyone tried re-machining an .049 cylinder to close up exhaust ports on one side, and open up ports on the other side to attach a tuned pipe? Crazy idea, but still fun to think about.

Proud owner of one Cox QRC .049...pondering over a micro outrigger hydroplane boat. Okay, it's not a plane, but it has "plane" in the name....Close enough?

Any thoughts or tips on the topic are apprciated.

Welcome on board Mark.
As someone who's spent 3 months hard toil and no small amount
Of money getting a sure start to lift a largish aircraft into the air.
I'd say 2 things -
The QRC ain't the most powerful of Coxes.
If you think you need more power, stick a bigger engine
In it to begin with. The TD09 is a comparative bargain at
The mo and will push out 4 times what the QRC will.

There are some old Cox cylinders with only one exhaust port. We have members who can tell you which models and sizes they came on. Someone into speed or pylon racing over at RC groups.com probably knows about it too.

As mentioned, easiest way to make an engine faster is replace it with a bigger engine...

Thanks for the replies, guys. I am a tinker-er by nature and want to try a tuned pipe more for experimentation/learning rather than just getting a bigger engine.

Good to know there are single port cylinders out there, I read that link for a bit and will keep you posted as/if this progresses.
