Re: The first step to recovery (engine break in)
No, Ron, I confess I didn't. I'm used to the old style with the spring/circlip and the X shaped reed. I didn't know it had one, but now that I look closer at the pictures, I see and popped it off. Its a good thing I asked because I never would have caught that and just torn up another reed. So much relearning
I tore down, cleaned, inspected, and pressure tested three engines. I'll test them tomorrow. As long as I can get one of them running fairly well, I'll be fine. I just don't want to flop again or the Kiddo may lose interest. Here is what I threw together for her

Y'all have been very helpful, and I can't thank you enough.

Re: The first step to recovery (engine break in)
Well, thanks to you all, I am the proud father of two screaming bees!
I ran the three that I had disassembled, cleaned, etc. All three started easily. Two ran well enough to drag a trainer around (still not completely smooth, but good enough. I'll keep fiddling with them) The third was the used engine with the leaky head: the head still leaks. I'll set it aside for a while... I have plenty of other engines to clean up.
Out of curiosity, roughly when did Cox stop printing "Thimble Drome" on the tanks?
