Cox Aurora Is this a new Cox engine??
As seen on ebay currently: AURORA TORNADO THIMBLE DROME .049 model airplane engine
Is this a new Cox engine or another clever scam?

Look familiar. I wonder about the lettering??
Now, does this look familiar?
Any experts out there on Cox engines. and how about this: "do not let your K&B and COX spend time to gather or you will get this. AURORA"
unhappydad

Re: Cox Aurora Is this a new Cox engine??
I think the spigot on the tank housing the reed is a little smaller than the K&B case, but I've seen them adapted before. Probably just needs a spacer ring. There was some guy out there making "hot rod" Tornados and used a lot of Cox back end parts. The original K&B Aurora plastic tanks are hard to find in good condition and the reeds are just impossible to find or to make (in my experience). That makes the Cox tank a good proposition for resurrecting an otherwise useless Tornado.

I have one of those cases (no tank) and a bag of pistons that cams with a lot but have not been able to get one to fit yet , does it take a special glow for it ?

I'm not sure what else fits these. I think the head has to be the correct one. They're available from MECOA.

don't you need a special cylinder

Doesn't the cylinder have to be different also? I noticed it wasn't shaped like the Cox cylinder, curved, and much taller having more fins.

Re: Cox Aurora Is this a new Cox engine??
It's all different. Just that the tank mounting screw pattern is the same and I've seen the transplant done quite a bit. I have no idea if bore & stroke are anywhere near Cox dimensions or whether the thread used in the case for the cylinder is similar. Same concept and that's about it.

The tank will bolt onto the k&b with no problem, but it's the only part that does. The head diameter is between the pre'56 and newer style Cox glowheads.
