Yup, it was a slug and you had to wait on it,,meaning very careful inputs until it came up to stable flying speed. And even then they had to be minute intputs or it would bleed said speed off and get wobbly. Way to much drag on that unit.
When it hooked the dog it was slingshotting and picking up speed,,amazingly.

That's funny. I remember being so disappointed on how the F-15 flew.

My Golden Bee has a W Filament Glow Head. What is the importance of this?

They are rarer than normal.
And have shorter lives so you may want to swap it for a coil because unburnt "w" heads are rare.

Hey Tailspin...it may be late in the thread to post this, but thought I'd include it. It's from Warren's Wikipedia Page on Cox Engines:

I don't remember that site having that much info. Maybe I didn't read all the way.
Here is what I have:
• #2 Cylinder (installed), and has the wrench reliefs on the top of the head, no bypass port
• #2 Cylinder, doesn't have any wrench reliefs, no bypass port
• #3 Cylinder (standard)
Re: Still runs after 25 years
You have to agree the head looks like it has a grove in the top of it from this picture. After you said it didn't, I figured it could have been dirt or a scratch.
This is the W filament head.
I have some cylinder charts here> http://sites.google.com/site/coxenginecollection/choosing-a-cylinder < and some more info here> http://sites.google.com/site/coxenginecollection/thinner-cylinder
By the way, do you have a copper o ring under that head, its not in the cylinder on that one picture.

After looking at pics today, I noticed that also. No, I don't have one.
Also, none of my cylinders have a number on them. I got the numbers from the wiki page. Looking at your page as well, I don't see a cylinder with slits that doesn't have a booster port. Both I have do not have a booster port.

Re: Still runs after 25 years
Personal preference.
I have only used the throttle sleeves and can say that they are great.

Re: Still runs after 25 years
If I remember correctly, thinking back to the mid-late 80s, there also was another version (before the surestart style) that adjusted the air intake from behind the motor mount. It used a cone shape plunger.
The only reason why I remember that is when I bought the throttle collar, the LHS talked me into the collar over the air intake version.

Re: Still runs after 25 years
When I got this motor from my cousin and his late father, it did come with a tank of this. I was in 7th grade at the time... LOL... that brings back memories. I ran that can empty and I decided to see if I could get it to puff some flame out of the end with a lighter. Well, it sure did, burned my thumb holding the lighter and collapsed the can... Got to learn right, LOL?

No not like this, it was not a carb so to speak
Re: Still runs after 25 years
Ok so just an air restrictor?
It sounds odd could it have been a part made by the shop?

WOW!
We use to make empty plastic race jugs shoot across the track.

I used to fill pinpong balls with propane and light them leaving only a 1mm hole and they would fly across the room a bit like a simple pulsejet.

I don't think so. It wasn't as beefy as the throttle sleeve though. I remember you had to take the screen off the back of the engine.

Ok i'll keep my eye out for designs like that.
Re: Still runs after 25 years
Was it black and the shape of a Babe Bee backplate? Did it also have a hole in the center with a rod coming out of the back. I remember seeing those, I believe they were made by Kavan.
Re: Still runs after 25 years
Kavan make a lot of accessories for cox engines dont they and they are german.
